After hearing Pamhouser brag about her sexual exploits, Angie feels that she has missed out on enjoying the single lifestyle. Past Angie is summoned to The Drunken Hoosier on a false alarm, and she grants Angie's wish by sending her (along with Heather) back to 1986 for one night. Appearing to others as her 16-year-old self, Angie cancels her scheduled movie date to see Tron with Frank Willis (who did not transition to Ava), instead accepting an invitation from Stephanie to go and party at a nightclub. Angie enjoys the evening, and ends up making out with Indianapolis sportscaster Mark Patrick, when Past Angie appears to return her to the present. Back in the present day, Angie then discovers that her past actions have had drastic effects on the world; she and Mark Patrick have been married for 20 years, Frank Willis is married to Anna Pamhouser, Sarah Palin is president instead of former U.S. President Barak Obamha; Tom, Deanna, Emilie, Hillary, Luanne, Stuart, Brian, and Ron have Pamhouser's chin, nose, and mannerisms, Joe Biden, who is just known as the chairman of Halliburton, has just shot dead by snipers, and finally, Tavis Smiley is the host of The Late Show. Heather explains to Angie that by missing out on her date with Frank and making out with Mark, she altered the time line. At the end of the episode (with Ava herself), Angie says "I'm just glad everything is back to normal" and then Joyce the Cow from Hoosier Anchorwoman! walks in and says "Who ate all the butter pecan ice cream?"

Angie joins Heather since she now cannot go on vacation, and the two cause unrest among their fellow patients by causing havoc on males. After the two are caught, Angie is accused of being Heather's "x-factor"; however, Heather manages to defend Angie and decides to leave the center. When it comes to entering Downtown Quillsville, Ava keeps having flashbacks of the shootings and therefore must step back. She goes to the restroom at AldiMart to cool down. (Part 3):Craven Gifts experiences discontinuation from business after the wholesale of economical flowers and gifts from AldiMart, rendering Ava unemployed and forcing her to collude in a plot to disrupt a publicity stunt. (Part 4): The aftermath of the gas explosion leaves Ava suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder around flowers, a now bald Baxter repressing her grief for Jasper (who was the only casualty in the explosion) by becoming an LGBT activist while angry, and Deanna worried about death.

Season 7 (2019–20)[edit]
In the seventh season (the first to air on WEVI-FTV Indianapolis), Ava Zinn took complete control of the show. Aside from the six year hiatus and the number of overall changes. Ava Willis is permanently promoted to manager of Craven Gifts. Angie gets a permanent job at the Mississinewa Cola Company.
Notable changes to several characters as follows:
Ava begins wearing her hair grey yet keeps her hairstyle from "Ava's Makeover", Angie becomes obsese and also goes wears her hair red/aburn, Deanna becomes a brunette, and Rags transitions to female and now goes by Tabby as well as becoming obese. Melissa appears wihout bangs in her hair.
Probably the most memorable aspect to the seventh season is the four-part episode "The Rape of Heather Willis", which may have drawn from some #MeToo scandals that were prominent in the news. Heather grappled with the effects and aftermath of rape, after she was attacked and raped by one of the male employees at Craven Gifts (in that episode, Heather reveals she got pregnant), whom Heather gets revenge.

Angie learns from Miles' Mexican psychic cousin, Mister Claude, in a palm reading that in a past life she was Witney Angieson (the founder of Quillsville). We are shown an 18th-century England in which Witney proposes to the love of her life, Willlie Redbush. The ruthless Queen Sheryl II, however, spots Redbush strolling through town and decides that she will marry him. When Witney is en route to her wedding, Sheryl exiles her to the New World. As Willie Redbush waits in growing anxiety, Sheryl walks into the church; she tells her Witney Angieson is dead, marrying him herself. Reaching the New World, Witney establishes the colony of Quillsville (which becomes a thriving settlement) and moves on with her life. Queen Sheryl's jester, Jesteress Tabitha soon reveals the truth to Redbush, who leaves for Quillsville and reunites with Willie. When the queen learns Redbush is gone, she leaves for Quillsville to reclaim him. When they are found, Witney threatens to kill an officer and Sheryl threatens to kill Redbush. After the exchange of threats, Witney and Tabitha decide to settle their dispute with a talent show. For her act, Queen Sheryl steals Jesteress Tabitha's (mostly unfunny) jokes. However, Witney steals the show with a techno-rock number; she and Redbush live happily ever after in Quillsville.

In the early morning hours of February 17, 2000, at their home near Fort Waynedale on Port Melissa, Indiana, Green Beret Captain Regine Wilson, M.D., was injured, and her pregnant wife and two young sons were murdered. Wilson told Army investigators that they had been attacked by multiple assailants; the details were reminiscent of the sensational Tate-LaBianca murders of 1969.
After several months of investigation led by then-Army Sergant Tiffani Donovan, Army lawyers charged Wilson with the three murders, leading to a three-months-plus adversarial hearing that recommended she not be prosecuted. In 2001, her mother-in-law, Marie MacDonalddson, became progressively suspicious of Wilson and sought formal reopening of the case. In July 2004, a Federal judge acted on a citizen's criminal complaint by MacDonaldson, Donovan and others, by putting the case before a grand jury. Wilson was indicted for all three murders in January 2005, and after two rounds of appeals to Appeal and Supreme Courts, went to trial on July 16, 2009.

Between the summer of 2023 and the spring of 2025, 58 children, adolescents and adults were murdered in Quillsville, Indiana. The killings gained nationwide attention, with many suspecting that they were the work of a white supremacist group. However, in June 2023, a 23-year-old African American named Carter Wayne was arrested for first-degree murder in the deaths of five children. Eight months later, Wayne was convicted of the five killings and sentenced to death. Some parties speculate that Wayne was not the real killer, and that local law enforcement officials used him as a scapegoat to bring a seemingly unsolvable case to a close. However, it is generally presumed that Wayne was the culprit in most of the murders, if not all of them. No one was ever tried in connection with the other killings.

The series finale tells the story of Heather preventing Angie and Ava from moving on with their lives. However, Angie gets in a drunk driving accident and dies, leaving Ava a widow until she starts dating and eventually marry Kellie Martin. Heather dates Nadine while Tabby and Shushu finally get their pet treats and pet toys for the first time. Meanwhile, The brother of Heather's rapist (in the four-part episode "The Rape of Heather Willis") comes to Quillsville to exact revenge against Heather for killing his brother.
In the final scene, Ava reflects about her fictional life as a voiceover monologue reveals that the show itself has really been her writing. She says that while the book she was writing was based on her life, she changed what she didn't like. For instance: in reality, Angie had in real life died of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol; Mandy—not Albert—was gay. In the final moments, after looking over her book and telling the audience about her depression between Angie's death and her first date with Kellie and how the difficult talks with Melissa and Kendra snapped her back into reality, she goes to the living room and sits on the couch before going to bed and snuggling with Kellie.
