Straitlaced gift saleswoman and family woman, Ava Willis, is accused of neglecting her dog, Timothy "Rags", and killing her brother, Albert, who had drowned during a a family outing at Quillsville Pool and rumors spread that Ava beat up a teenaged lifeguard (when really he just yelled at her for not saving her brother). Meanwhile, Ava's friends, conspiracy nut Melissa Rose, down-and-out Army hair stylist Tiffani Kendall, and fast-talking manizer Anna Pamhouser, try to fix Ava's SUV, while Baxter Crawford (Ava's nephew) moves in with the Willis after his mother get sent to jail over a domestic disturbance at Quillsville Pool.

In a Rashomon-meets-The Three Stooges-style story, Ava, Melissa, Tiffani, and Pamhouser tell their own versions of their day as mental health case managers after getting arrested for burning the mental psychiatric ward to the ground. Meanwhile, Deanna helps Angie with a pulled groin muscle.

Much to Peggy's dismay, she takes over Craven Gifts after Ava sucessfully convinces Peggy to get a job but is dismayed that Craven Gifts has softened up and sets out to make it as brutal as possible. Adrienne and April delivers Peggy's daughter (whom she names "Amazing Ava") but gets overwhelmed when neither Peggy nor Charlie embrace new parenthood. Ava successfully convinces Peggy to get a job and Peggy becomes Tina Craven's golf caddy and maid.
