Elisa Donovan is a fictional character from the animated series Amanda and Elisa and Queen of the Willis. She is voiced by the show's creator, Ava Zinn.

Ava Zinn got the name Elisa from her second significant other, when she (as a male) and Elisa Everman were dating at the time

Characteristics

Of the title characters, Elisa appears to be the leader of the two. She is calmer, cockier, and marginally more intelligent and self-aware than Amanda, but is oblivious to subtleties, semi-literate and still significantly less intelligent than the other characters in the show. Regardless, as the 'leader', she is usually 100% confident in everything she says and does – no matter how ridiculous or frivolous it is. Dan Tobin of The Chronicle-Tribune described Elisa as "ringleader, the devious visionary."

Elisa seems to be the lazier of the two. She never seems to react to things unless they catch her attention, in which case she describes them as 'cool'. Amanda, on the other hand, always has some kind of reaction, although her actions predictably end with bad results.

Elisa has a severe overbite, wears dental braces, and has brown hair and squinted eyes. Her top gums are often exposed and she speaks nasally with a deep voice and a slight lisp, repeatedly punctuating her speech with her trademark laugh (Uh huh, huh huh). She is usually shown wearing an Indianpolis Colts jersey.

Though Elisa is physically weak to the point of being unable to lift a bar without weights even with help from Amanda, she still seems to win most fights with Amanda. However, the pair were not weak in the first two seasons, in which they are able to overpower on different occasions Carly Stevens, a security guard and some Mexican children playing pinata.

Elisa's parents are not seen, except for in Amanda and Elisa Do Indiana. On Queen of the Willis, it was revealed that she has a sister named Tiffani.

Relationship with Amanda

The series appears to show both title characters living in the same house. The movie Amanda and Elisa Do indiana gives a quick glimpse of their mothers telling the girls how their fathers got their mothers pregnant (both groups failed to make the connection of their kinship).

On many occasions, Elisa is depicted as being abusive towards Amanda, usually slapping or insulting her. In several episodes Elisa shows no concern for Amanda, whether Amanda is being severely beaten, abandoned. The feeling appears to be mutual, as seen in one episode when Amanda nearly drowns in a pool and Amanda remains indifferent to Elisa's near-death experience, and in Choker when Elisa chokes on a hamburger and Amanda takes her time attempting to help her as if it were nothing serious. Amanda tells the 9-1-1 operator "She's not really my friend". When Elisa is in a situation when she may need Amanda's help, Amanda's reluctance to help her may be due to a failure to realize that Elisa needs help. In Choker, when Elisa tries to demonstrate that she is choking Amanda says "I hate this stupid game", as if Elisa were playing a game of charades. When Amanda gets a nosebleed (caused by Elisa punching her in the face), Elisa "tries" to help her, resulting in Amanda losing a great deal of blood (Nosebleed).

The two characters spend almost all of their time with each other, if not all of it. They share the same occupation, and usually compliment each other when one makes any sort of endeavor, especially if it involves their lifelong goal to 'score with dudes'. It can be inferred that, despite their abusive relationship, the duo are still best friends, considering their shared activities, residency, interests, and simply for their lack of any other friends.

In Amanda & Elisa

Elisa is especially scornful of Carly Stewart, a nerdy, overweight young woman, who wants to be friends with the duo. She greatly admires Averi Planucchio, an older bully who takes advantage of the duo and pushes them around. She and Amanda aspire to be in Averi's "gang", sometimes subjecting themselves to considerable abuse in vain attempts to be accepted. She is generally a thorn in the side of both the Square J owner and her neighbor Claudia Zinn. The duo spend a lot of time loitering in and around Square J, annoying both the owner and the customers (especially men, with their weak pick-up lines). Claudia continually hires the two to do chores and asks favors of them, despite disastrous results each time. She does not seem to recall who they are from one encounter to the next, apparently due to poor sight and/or senility. She has been seen talking to other students in the classroom such as an overweight teen who was telling them about Star Wars and she seemed to be getting along with her and listening.

Mrs. Carson is alone among professors at Port Melissa Univeristy in that she sees potential in the duo and she tries to reach out to them and encourage them. She makes several attempts to teach them life lessons, to no avail. Conversely, Coach Shorthair takes every opportunity to embarrass them, exposing both their stupidity and their lack of manliness. Though she shares a mutual hatred for Shorthair like Amanda, Elisa also has shown a little respect for her unlike Carson. Principal Mughmaw has no idea what to do with them, as virtually every attempt she makes to instill discipline in them fails miserably. She has however been able to exploit Amanda and Elisa's fear of expulsion and being forced to attend Blackford-Delaware University (a community college) once, and finally suceeds in Amanda & Elisa's Judgement Day. Mr. Barley is among the rest of the professors who despises the duo, especially when Elisa laughs when he mentioned eggs in class. Mrs. Zolkows has shown mutual dislike for the girls, especially when they mispronounce her name and their inability to speak proper French or Spanish in her class.

In Queen of the Willis

In the series Queen of the Willis which followed Amanda & Elisa, Amanda and Elisa move from Port Melissa to Quillsville after Elisa and Amanda finally confront their fear of alleged homophobia. She and Amanda had graduated from Port Melissa University and moved to a new town (Quillsville), having moved from Port Melissa in Amanda and Elisa. The duo make their first appearance in "The Story of Amanda and Elisa" when they moves in on Owensboro Street across the street from the Willis family in early 2010, Angie Willis files a complaint against them after a boisterous party. In response, Amanda and Elisa makes a diss video entitled "Eff Tranny and MILF", invoking a rivalry between the two.

Elisa appears alongside Amanda Dawson and Kendra Kendall in the Queen of the Willis episode "Aeverine Kills Rags" and Rags Willis (now Tabby Willis) mistakes Elisa for her sister, Tiffani due to their similarities.
