The following is a list of characters appearing on the cartoon series Amanda and Elisa, each with a description. Some of these characters appear in only one or two episodes. The episodes in which they are known to appear are listed in italics. Other characters with smaller and/or less significant roles sometimes bear the likenesses of some of the characters listed below.

Voiced by guest stars[edit]

Port Melissa University faculty and staff[edit]

  • Principal Carla Mughmaw (voiced by Ava Zinn) : the principal of Port Melissa Univeristy. Mughmaw suffers from extreme nervous tension caused by having to deal with Amanda and Elisa over the years. She is the character who hates the duo more than anyone else. She speaks with a Texas accent, constantly shakes, her voice is strained, and she keeps a bottle of vodka in her desk, from which she drinks even when people are present. Mughmaw also has a bottle of pills (presumably anti-depressants) that she keeps in her desk and also will use (by the handful) in public. She also has threatened to kill Amanda and Elisa. Most commonly, she also refers to the duo as "little bitches"; in return, the duo refers to Mughmaw as "Dumbaw". When Amanda and Elisa are expelled in the last episode, Mughmaw organizes a teachers' party. When they show up at though, Mughmaw suffers a heart attack, and Coach Shorthair attempts to resuscitate her afterwards with CPR, while Amanda and Elisa incorrectly assume she was "making out" with Mughmaw. Mughmaw has a daughter, Nancy, who appears in the Queen of the Willis episode "The Rape of Heather Willis".
  • Coach Debbie Shorthair (voiced by Holly Everman): is in charge of Physical Education, Math and Science; the angry, loud-mouthed, antisocial Shorthair dislikes Amanda and Elisa nearly as much as Principal Mughtmaw does. She has a military background in the United States Army. She takes great pleasure in belittling anyone, especially the duo. She looks at them as personifying everything wrong with humanity.

  • Dana Carson (née Driessen) (voiced by Ava Zinn): A teacher who is characterized as an extremely liberal educator. Specifically, she is a pacifist, concerned about environmental protection, believes in aid for foreign countries, and women's rights. She generally speaks in a soft, gentle voice, encourages her students to get in touch with their feelings, and often plays folk songs on her keyboard. She has a habit of ending nearly every sentence with "M'kay?" Carson has had many near-death experiences during the course of the show (often, as a direct result of Amanda and Elisa's actions). Most of the teachers at Port Melissa Univeristy despise Amanda and Elisa, but Carson sympathizes with them and believes them to be somehow capable of salvation except in Cleaning House where she finally lost her patience by wanting to kill the duo after they wrecked her cassette tape collection. Her attempts to appeal to their better sides, however, invariably fail. In the series finale "Amanda and Elisa's Judgement Day", in which the girls are mistakenly assumed to be deceased, Carson is the only teacher who expresses sadness, going as far as to cry and express disbelief when the announcement is made. All her colleagues celebrate with a party. In Queen of the Willis, Ava Willis is said to have attended Port Melissa Univeristy and Carson was her professor.

Classmates[edit]

Classmates in Amanda and Elisa included:[citation needed]

  • Carly Stevens (voiced by Ava Zinn): A chubby nerdy girl who is usually depicted wearing a Chicago Cubs T-shirt. She likes to think of herself as Amanda and Elisa's friend, although the pair really do not like her and usually tease her. She does not seem to remember how badly they treat her between incidents, or does not care about their maltreatment if she does remember it. Carly's worshipful attitude towards the contemptuous duo mirrors how Amanda and Elisa relate to someone who detests them, gang leader Averi. Frequently, when caught committing some sort of outrageous prank, Amanda and Elisa blame (or frame) Carly ("She threatened to hit us" or "Carly got us the porn"), which is quite often believed, even though Carly is far more passive and smaller than the pair.

Local residents[edit]

Port Melissa residents in Amanda and Elisa included:[citation needed]

  • Arianna Elisabeth "Averi" Planucchio (voiced by Holly Everman on Amanda & Elisa, Karly Jameson on The Souzas): A violent criminal and a role model to Amanda and Elisa even though her contempt for them is clear. She takes any opportunity to use the girls for money or beat them for troubling her with their affection. Although Averi verbally and physically abuses them the girls continue to seek her out. The only time Averi backed down against Amanda was when she was in her Femholio alter ego, opting to beat up the more sane Elisa.

  • Claudia Zinn (voiced by Ava Zinn): A middle aged transwoman, presumably of pre-retirement age, who lives with her wife Amber near Amanda Dawson and Elisa Donovan in Port Melissa. Zinn mentions being an educator . As mentioned in Flashers, Zinn's address is 8240 Wilson Court. Zinn is very conservative and she frequently makes reference to his days as an educator, usually in a futile attempt to teach Amanda and Elisa the ethics of hard work and discipline. She is primarily the target of pranks, although occasionally Amanda and Elisa attempt to do Zinn a favor. Her voice is provided by Ava Zinn, who says Zinn is based on every middle-aged authority figure she knew growing up in Gas City, Indiana, Van Buren, Indiana and Marion, Indiana. Zinn would later serve as an inspirations for Ava Willis from Queen of the Willis and Deanna Willis from The Souzas.
  • Amber Zinn (née Anderson): Claudia Zinn's wife. She appears in Amanda and Elisa Do Indiana, and she also has cameos in a few episodes. In Good Credit she accompanies Claudia to a teaching reunion where she cannot check into the hotel because Amanda and Elisa have her credit card and charge multiple animals at a pet store. In Shopping Cart she and Claudia are shown getting into their RV in a grocery store parking lot. Amanda and Elisa come up with the idea of deliberately getting hit by cars to make money after a driver backs into Elisa in a shopping cart and then gives her $50 not to report it. Their scheme goes awry when the cart gets caught on the trailer hitch and they are dragged behind the RV at high speed until the cart is flung off into a tree when the Zinns round a corner. Her appearance could be considered a prototype for The Souzas character Brandi Willis.

Television/radio personalities[edit]

Television and radio personalities in Amanda and Elisa included:[citation needed]

  • Laura Bakula: A news anchor for the then-NBC affiliate (now ABC O&O) WMRI-TV where Amanda and Elisa win a guest Anchor spot (TV Sweethearts). The duo gains popularity with Laura's audience by tactlessly ridiculing her on the air for being an over the hill feminism poseur and promising free piercings as a giveaway. Laura's show, which seemingly had almost no audience before the pair guest hosted, is retooled to emulate Amanda and Elisa after her audience apparently wants to hear more of them. After hearing the reworked show, Elisa remarks "This used to be a pretty cool station until they put these dorks on." Voiced by Laura Bakula.

  • Captain Sam Singleton: A weatherman on WMRI-TV, he hosts Sam Singleton, a program on which he talks to troubled teens. He unsuccessfully tries to appear tuned in to the lingo of teenagers/young adults. Amanda and Elisa are sent to appear on the show by Principal Mughmaw as a disciplinary measure. Earlier in the episode, Singleton covers an event at Port Melissa at which the university is announcing a canned food drive. The fraternities have glued cans together to spell the word "CARES" next to the Port Melissa University sign. When the drape is removed from the cans, it is shown that Amanda and Elisa have rearranged the cans to spell "SUKS" (misspelling "sucks") instead. This event was apparently televised live, as Mughmaw shows the ladies a replay of it in her office before giving them a choice of either going on Sam Singleton and confessing, or removing asbestos] from the cafeteria. Voiced by Ava Zinn impersonating Doug Rafferty.
  • Deborah Shea: The WFTW Channel 6 (then-CBS affiliate, now NBC affiliate) reporter who covers the "labor dispute" at Square J when Amanda and Elisa decide to go on strike (On Strike).
