The Zinn–Mort rivalry, dubbed The Battle of Ohio by fans, is a rivalry between American Vote for the Girls moderators Ava Zinn and Maribel Mort.
Geography, friendship, and siblings add to this rivalry. Zinn (a trans woman from Van Buren, Indiana) and while Hurd/Rock (sisters from Warren, Pennsylvania) are in the center of the Buckeye state, and until Donna Doogan joined the panel in the fall of 2016, essentially split Ohio. Vote for the Girls webmaster Ava Zinn were (and to this day, still are) longtime close friends with Mort's mother (Robyn Hurd) and Holly Everman (Hurd was Zinn's first friend despite Hurd being 22 years Zinn's senior from January 4, 1989 until Hurd's death from a stroke on May 24, 2012 and Everman has been close friends since December 28, 1990 and upon Hurd's death in 2012 became the longest tenured close friend with Zinn).
The rivalry would later be fueled by sociocultural differences.[citation needed] Although Ohio is geographically between Indiana and Pennsylvania, Marion, Indiana identifies more with East Central Indiana while Warren, Pennslvania identifies more with the Northwest Pennsylvania (particularly in nearby Pittsburgh)[citation needed].
From the website's launch on April 28, 2010, Zinn and Hurd (later Rock) first competed as opposing moderators, except in Summer 2011 (Ava Zinn was auditioning in Pittsburgh for the 11th season of American Idol, being busy with her high school reunion while Hurd spent the summer of 2011 sidelined by varicose veins), summer 2012 (Ava Zinn was in the beginning stages of a lengthy battle over her future in Marion, Indiana three years after the repercussions WISH-TV/Bright House dispute and Patrice Rafferty filled in for Zinn during the Duets and So You Think You Can Dance 9 competitions and Hurd's widow, Hilalry Matthewson, filled the remainder of Hurd's term until the end of the web site's spring cycle of the fourth season) and from Matthewson's departure until the fall cycle of the web site's fifth season when Hurd's sister Kellie Rock joined the moderator panel.

At the start of the sixth season, as part of the moderators' punishments for failing to support Christina Grimmie and Jena Asciutto in securing the web site's respective fourth consecutive Voice and second consecutive American Idol victory, Ava Zinn and fellow purple team transwoman moderator Kathi Jameson wore strapless tops with Zinn wearing thong panties occasionally as her own gender transition was not completed at the time (as Zinn says she has an "enlarged clitoris") and Jameson's completed in 2012, while Holly Everman and fellow pink team moderator Kellie Rock binding their breasts with Rock appearing as a Breast Cancer survivor if she had a double mastectomy and Everman (after shaving her traditionally long hair) appearing as a female-to-male transgender individual.

Notable Moments[edit]
2015: Zinn tirade[edit]
After the American Idol 14 Top 12 result on March 12, 2015, Ava Zinn unleashed a torrent of expletives and threats designed to motivate her fellow purple team moderators. In one portion she exclaims she is "f**king tired of losing to Kellie." Unknown to most, the cameras were still rolling and was included in the web site's sixth season finale. Zinn and Alvaraz's pick of Nick Fradiani would go on to the American Idol 14 finale in which Fradiani became the winner of American Idol (and become the web site's first male victory on Idol) while Rock's pick (Tyanna Jones) finished in fifth place.
