Julie Dorthy Christian (born April 12, 1941), better known to Fox affiliate KDNC and later Vote for the Girls viewers as Kym's Mom, is a retired Denver news anchorwoman and the mother of former KDNC-FTV anchorwoman Kym Christian and frequent guest[when?] on KDNC and later Vote for the Girls .

Following several years of appearing via telephone, Christian made her on-screen Vote for the Girls debut covering the Kym Christian shooting incident. She currently resides in Aurora, Colorado.

Personal life

Julie Christian was born Julie Dorthy Mengering in Pueblo, Colorado, the oldest child of Dorthy (née Hickman) and Jacob William Mengering.


Christian spent a year at University of Colorado before marrying David Joesph (Dave) Christian in 1962, with whom she had five children: Laverne (b. 1963), Juan (b. 1965), Kymberly (b. 1967), Davina (formerly Dave Jr.) (b. 1969), and Stephen (formerly Shirley) (b. 1971).

Julie has several grandchildren and one great grandchild. In February 2016, one of Julie's grandchildren, Stephani Alvaraz (daughter of Kymberly) gave birth to a son, Logan Dylan, on February 13, 2016.
