List of Vote for the Girls (U.S.) supported contestants
This is a list of contestants who have been supported by the American web site Vote for the Girls. As of 2016, a total of 11 female victories, one male victory, seven females saved from losses for the web site have happened with the eight outright victories and one imported victory.
During the first two seasons the supported contestants were chosen by Ava Zinn and since the third season the contestants were supported into three teams: "Team Ava", "Team Holly" and "Team Robyn". Each team of supported contestants are chosen by the site's moderators (the site doesn't use the term judges, Zinn perfers to use the term Moderators instead of coaches, experts, or judges), Zinn, Holly Everman, and Robyn Hurd as their first pick (the first pick usually a contestant from the moderator's home market or home state) to win American Idol. From season 3 through 5, the site added The X Factor and Duets. From season 4 onwards, Duets was replaced by The Voice. From season four to the fall cycle of the fifth season, a fourth team was added as a fourth moderator, Michelle Steele, joined the site and the moderator panel was split into two teams of two based on the moderator's gender identity: transwomen (Zinn and Steele on the purple team and Everman and Matthewson on the pink). Also in season 4, Hurd died of a stroke, leaving Zinn and Everman as the only two moderators to return from the previous year, where they have remained since. Zinn, Everman, and Steele were joined on the moderator panel by Hillary Matthewson and Ariel Swaringen. In season 5, Matthewson left the site, Zinn, Everman, Steele, Swaringen returned as moderators from the previous year. The site added a fifth and sixth team in the spring cycle as two moderators, Kellie Rock and Kathi Jameson, joined the panel and would eventually serve as replacements of Swaringen and Steele (both of them died during the fifth season's spring cycle). In season 6, Jameson left the site as Zinn, Everman, and Rock returned as moderators from the previous season. Julia Passalt, Lanise White, Rhonda Rhodes, Karly Ryder, Jr., Tracia Ward, Kendra Ray and Kym (Christian) Alvaraz joined the moderator panel as Passalt and Ward would eventually replace Jameson and Ryder mid-season with White and Rhodes as replacements of Swaringen and Steele. Also during season 6, it was announced that Kymberly Alvaraz would be joining Ava Zinn as a duo moderator under "Team Zinn" or "Team Ava & Kymberly" and Vote for the Girls UK moderator Nermal Everman, niece of Holly, would also join the moderator panel also as a duo moderator under "Team Everman" or Team Holly & Nermal" bringing the number of moderators up to ten instead of eight. In season 7, the number of moderators remained at ten moderators as it was announced that along with Ava & Kymberly, Holly & Nermal, Tracia, Lanise, and Kendra, and new moderators Thia Tola, Kathy Roberts, Perri Johnson (joining Everman after Nermal Everman died before the start of the seventh season) would also be joining the moderator panel while Kathi Jameson and Karly Ryder, Jr. (now going by Karly Jameson) rejoining the moderator panel as the site's third duo moderator with Hillary Matthewson rejoined the moderator panel with Matthewson joining Tracia Ward as the site's fourth duo moderator.
From the third season onwards, the male counterpart of the Pink and Purple Teams, "Zinn's Villains" (initially the Male Moderator Crew") Archibald Coolranch joined the site as the male moderator while Leonard Lai joined the site in the fifth season, Clark Jones joined the male moderator panel in season 6 while Glenn Swaringen and Luka Runecraft joined in season 7 to make their "Vote for the Worst" pick (all of the site's such picks are male contestants as opposed to the female contestants to compete against the females on the "Pink Team" and the transgendered females on the "Purple Team" moderator panels.)
As of the conclusion of the spring cycle of season 7, only ten moderators have been the winning moderator on at least one occasion, while four of the site's moderators have either had the winning first pick on her team or being spared the "loss" at least once, with Zinn winning 25 times (12 of those with Alvaraz), Everman winning four times (one each with her nice, Nermal, and her girlfriend, Perri), Rock also winning four times, Tola winning twice and Hurd, Ward, Ray, and White winning on one occasion each.
The moderators not to win are Julia Passalt, Rhonda Rhodes, Kathi Jameson, Karly Jameson (the former Karly Ryder, Jr.), Michelle Steele, Ariel Swaringen, Hillary Matthewson, and Kathy Roberts, with Steele's best performance being second on the fourth season of The Voice in 2013 (her first of her two seasons on the panel), Ryder finishing sixth place on the only season of Rising Star in 2014 (Ryder's only season as a solo moderator), .

- 4^ Following the eliminations of Grey on Team Adam, Shelbie Z on Team Blake, Tamara Chauniece and Amber Nicole on Team CeeLo, and Olivia Henken and Stephanie Ann Johnson on Team Christina, neither Holly, Michelle, nor Ariel had any remaining supported contestants after they were eliminated in the Live Playoffs during the fifth season of The Voice.
- 5^ With the elimination of Adanna Duru and Maddie Walker (respectively supported by Ava and Kendra), this particular elimination resulted in a six-way victory with the Pink Team moderators (with the exception of Kym, of whom transfered from the Pink Team to the Purple Team to join Ava under Team Ava & Kymberly) winning by default, and the Moderatrors' Save will be used on the remaining supported contestants during the fourteenth season of American Idol.

- Footnotes
- ↑ Initially VFTG Loss. Following the victory of Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson on the 19th season of Dancing with the Stars, Asciutto became the first non-winning supported American Idol contestant to be inducted into the web site's Hall of Fame. In addition, Asciutto broke the record as the longest Vote for the Girls Idol pick lasting 14 weeks (from Top 30 to the finale), surpassing the previous record of 12 weeks set by Lauren Alaina and Jessica Meuse. [1]
- ↑ Initially VFTG Loss that was proved controversial as fans of the site and Grimmie believed she would win due to her large fan base on social media. However, after the victory of Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson on the 19th season of Dancing with the Stars, the loss was reversed to a Moderator's Veto since Grimmie's loss occurred within the two year statues of limitations and became the second non-winning supported Voice contestant after DaNica Shirey to be inducted into the web site's Hall of Fame. In addition, Grimmie. [1]
- ↑ Prior to the conclusion of the fall cycle of the sixth season, a twist was added and the "100th Vote for the Girls pick" was chosen by the voting public. The options were Macy Kate or Karen Hornsby as Ava Zinn posted on Twitter: "The 100th Vote for the Girls pick.... lives in Florida and competed on Rising Star. The result of the vote and the name of the public's choice to become the 100th VFTG Pick was announced on the Vote for the Girls 100 Women Picked special that aired January 4, 2015. And it was Macy Kate who had earned the site's 100th Pick with Hornsby (coincidentally Hornsby was the 100th supported contestant eliminated) named the site's 99th pick.
- ↑ Meuse tied the record as the longest Vote for the Girls Idol pick lasting 12 weeks (from Top 30 to the Top 12), set by Lauren Alaina during the tenth season of American Idol. Jena Irene broke this record set two weeks later.
- ↑ Initially Painful Bankrupt, but following the victory of Alex & Sierra on the third season of The X Factor, Miller became the first non-winning and non-finale supported contestant to be in the web site's Hall of Fame
- ↑ Vote for the Girls Thailand (the Thai adaptation of Vote for the Girls) scored its only victory during the site's four year run when Molloy won the first season of Thailand's Got Talent. After the Thai adaptation's cancellation in the spring of 2014, either due to low ratings or the site's consistent losses since Molloy's victory, former VFTGTHAI moderator Thia Tola contacted VFTG creator Ava Zinn about the Thai adaptation's ongoing failures and Zinn launched an Australian adaptation of Vote for the Girls, but imported Molloy's TGT victory into this original United States adaptation of Vote for the Girls and Tola became a moderator on both the American and Australian versions as a condition of VFTGTHAI's cancellation.
- ↑ The site's pick of MK Nobilette was only available to Zinn, Steele, and Jameson. The pick of Nobilette drew controversy. This brought some angry responses on the site's Twitter page. Some even criticized Zinn for her decision for declaring Nobilette as a "transman" pick and earlier drew criticism on the United Kingdom version when that site declared James Byron as a "transgirl" pick on the third series of The Voice UK. Zinn's decision to declare the transman pick did not sit well with the transgender community despite the fact Zinn, a transgender woman herself (as well as Steele and Jameson) and the fact that much of the moderator panel are considered lesbians (Zinn, Steele, and Jameson are such transwomen as a result of their gender transitions their sexual orientation is considered to be lesbian (prior to their transitions, Zinn, Steele, and Jameson were all heterosexual males until 2004, 2012, and 2011, respectively) while Swaringen, Rock, and Everman--biological women--have came out as bisexuals in 2010, 1994, and 2000, respectively. In Zinn's defense, she mentioned that if fans want to vote for a male contestant -- MK Nobilette is the closest pick. Though there was speculation this spawned the brawl four weeks after Nobilette's elimination.[3]
- ↑ Stage name was "Drew" from the live shows onwards.
- ↑ Ava Zinn initially excluded Sanchez, but after the first week of the American Idol 11 Top 7 result, decided she had made a "huge voting mistake" in not including Sachez as Holly and Robyn chose Sanchez as a supported contestant
- ↑ The American Idol 13 and The Voice 6 competitions marked the first time in the site's history that conflict with the contestants from American Idol and The Voice prevented Zinn from completing the season. The male contestants on both competitions were mostly "white guys with guitars," which are never VFTG picks. The competitions became increasingly heated and the American public reacted defensively, refusing to accept the truth about WGWG's, and blaming others for no reason. During one episode, Zinn concludes, "I think the competition's too far gone". After the eliminations of MK Nobilette, Majesty Rose, Malaya Watson, and Jessica Meuse landed in the bottom two the week following Watson's elimination, and Zinn tells in a YouTube video on April 18, 2014, the competition that's basically lopsided with dreaded WGWG's are not normal for this kind of competition and announces that she would be auctioning off her virginity, and it is implied that she called off the competition for that reason. Zinn made her threat to auction off her virginity following Santiago's elimination. Though Zinn's Idol and Voice picks in the spring cycle remained valid.
- ↑ During the site's presentation on December 2, 2014 Zinn says to the seven other moderators right before it was announced Shirey's elimination, "Let me tell you would've been if the Moderators' Veto had not not used," and the announcement of Jamison's save is interrupted by a long buzzer. After 3 seconds, Zinn announces, "DaNica Shirey is eliminated, and that means we have zero female contestants left in this competition. What this means is that there is a Vote for the Girls loss and it's the first time on "The Voice" it has ever happened. According to the rules, though, the competition is over. Since the Moderators' Veto was used to reject DaNica's defeat, we will NOT declare a loss and none of the moderators face a punishment for failure to get DaNica to a victory"). For her to be considered for the Moderators' Save, all eight moderators (Ava Zinn, Nermal Everman (filling in for her aunt Holly as she was serving a suspension from the moderator panel after her second DUI arrest), Kellie Rock, Julia Passalt, Lanise White, Karly Ryder, Jr., Kendra Ray (who recently joined the moderator panel and replaced terminated moderator Kathi Jameson), Kym Christian) rung in during Shirey's audition on September 23, 2014 and since Shirey and Rock are from the state of Pennsylvania, Shirey was Rock's primary pick and became the winning moderator after the eight moderators declared after the eliminations of Reagan James and Anita Antoinette on stage that they were unanimous in using their "Moderators' Save"[4], a veto that was introduced earlier in the web site's sixth season. This made Shirey the first declared "Vote for the Girls" Voice pick (Shirey would later be joined by Christina Grimmie and Jena Asciutto following a review in January 2015) and the second supported contestant after Valerie Rockey in the web site's history spared from the site declaring a 'Vote for the Girls Loss upon her elimination. Shirey was the last female contestant to be eliminated, leaving an all-male Top 5 for the first time in The Voice's history.

- ↑ Holly Tucker was originally selected for Top 6 week, but after the performances, the website switched to eventual winner Danielle Bradbery[5], marking the first time the website had changed its mind on which contestant to vote for based on performance alone
- ↑ Upon learning that Watson was announced as the act with lowest number of votes for Top 7 reveal night on April 10, 2014, and taking offense of guest moderator, former Vote for the Girls UK moderator Khayla Chow (by calling Chow a "bi-black bimbo") during the viewing of the Malaya's final performance Chow shoved Holly Everman to the ground sparking the Vote for the Girls brawl. Hours later on the early morning hours of April 11, 2014, Everman was arrested under suspicion of DUI in Indianapolis, Indiana. Everman was suspended from April 14 to April 28. Though Everman's picks for The Voice remained valid.
- ↑ During the third season of The X Factor, male-female duos were standardized in addition to female vocalists and girl groups.
The new male-female duo rule is often referred to as the "Alex & Sierra Rule", referring to Alex & Sierra. Although widely denied, site creator Ava Zinn allowed the site's moderators to make such male-female duos and groups as long as 50 percent (or more) females are in the group, was in reaction to the decision to not include Lyric145 in the previous season of X Factor. [6] [7] NOTE: On the episode cited above, when Alex & Sierra were chosen as a Vote for the Girls pick Zinn stated that this rule applies to all singing competitions. Alex & Sierra's win allowed Angie Miller to be inducted into the Vote for the Girls Hall of Fame - ↑ During the American Idol 14 auditions, site creator Ava Zinn allowed Riley Bria as a Vote for the Girls M2F pick. However, the female moderators (Kymberly Alvaraz on the purple team chose Bria as her Best of Worst pick; Holly Everman, Kellie Rock, Lanise White, and Tracia Ward on the pink team) were allowed to choose Bria as her Vote for the Girls pick while the transfemale moderators (Ava Zinn[8], Rhonda Rhodes[9], Julia Passalt[10], and Kendra Ray[11] on the purple team) did not[12]. Holly Everman was subject to much criticism, particularly on Twitter, over her decision to choose Riley Bria and Nick Fradiani as her Vote for the Girls picks and she posted on her Wordpress site defending her decision to allow Riley Bria and Nick Fradiani as VFTG picks. Fans compared Everman's picks as bad as Ava selling off her virginity to Kymberly Alvaraz the year before. She also defended the fact that as the winning moderator of the nineteenth season of Dancing with the Stars, this entitled her and her fellow Pink team moderators allowing Riley and Nick as VFTG picks. Kymberly Alvaraz didn't face as much criticism as Everman did, though she dis select both men as her "Best of Worst" picks for Team Ava & Kymberly. As the creator of Vote for the Girls, Zinn is free to ignore the Vote for the Girls pick rules if she sees fit.[13][14][15][16]
- ↑ During the American Idol 14 auditions, site creator Ava Zinn allowed Fradiani as a Vote for the Girls pick under the Alex & Sierra rule. Fradiani auditioned with his significant other, Ariana Garvrilis (aka Yanni G), and Zinn declared Fradiani close enough to an Alex & Sierra pick for American Idol.[8][12]
- ↑ Carson later won the nineteenth season of Dancing with the Stars with Alfonso Ribeiro
- ↑ Before the So You Think You Can Dance season 11 finale, the moderators were given the option by each taking an anonymous vote to either go by Valerie Rockey winning SYTYCD since there was one winner or if all votes were "yes" Ava Zinn would declare a Vote for the Girls victory based on the dual-winners format used on SYTYCD 9 and 10 and the moderators will not choose any wild card or steal picks for the upcoming seasons of The Voice and American Idol. The votes ended with all moderators voting yes. With Ava ignoring the single winner format reinstated for the 11th season of So You Think You Can Dance and going by the two winners (one male and one female) for the competition, Ava declared a the first Vote for the Girls victory of 2014 when it was revealed that Ricky Ubela (the actual winner of So You Think You Can Dance 11) was declared the male winner and Zach Everhart, Jr. (finished in 4th Place) the male runner-up while Valerie Rockey (the runner-up of So You Think You Can Dance 11) was declared the female winner and Jessica Richens (finished in 3rd Place and the Vote for the Girls victory) the female runner-up. Had the moderators not been unanimous, the site would have declared its fourth consecutive loss as well as the first SYTYCD loss.
