Breaking Boiling Point 2: A Renter's Revenge is an American 9-part episode of the fifth season of Caprice & Ella and is the second miniseries in the show's history.[1] The miniseries, which aired from September 4 to 23, 2023, covers the two and a half month period of Caprice, Ella, and Ava Zinn of finally having the right place to live following Ava's injury in November 2023 and is a sequel to Breaking Boiling Point.

The miniseries also marks the first appearances of Jenna Zinn, Alisan Zinn, Michael Zinn II, and Leah Zinn.

Plot[edit]

Part 1[edit]

Seven months have passed as Ava learns and recieves a settlement of the first floor home at Golfview Apartments. She is still using a cane to walk and still having to use the cane to walk up and down the stairs and is expected to walk without a cane soon after a seven month delay. However, Caprice and Ella learn about the transfer from the second floor to the first floor and while Ella is okay, Caprice is scared in a way.

Part 2[edit]

Ava had been prepared as she has mostly things packed up yet some were already packed from Black Pine Flats and some even packed from 2018 when Ava relocated from Marion, Indiana to Fort Wayne. During the final hours on the second floor, Ava is enjoying some Domino's Pizza as well as watching "World's Wildest Police Videos with John Bunnel," getting, some laundry done, and continues to get things packed for the 450-foot move to the first/ground floor. Caprice gets somewhat anxious after Breeanna approaches her yet Ava assures Caprice that the calming diffuser for cats will arrive soon as Caprice has been on Ava about this for seven months.

Ava then reveals that she had problems with the second-floor apartment and had a challenging time with the ceiling fan as the chains were tucked away, which Ava finally managed to fix. Caprice and Ella begin to misbehave and Ava calms them down to the best of her ability.

As the day of the move to the first floor arrives, it is revelaed that Ava only had a few weeks to prepare after the Spring 2023 semester ended at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne. Ella gets excited while Caprice, who is shocked and surprised to be relived unlike the move from Black Pine Flats to Golfview Apartments seven months earlier, she is a little bit calmer but does not hiss as much. Throughout the miniseries, Ava is settling in and things are finally getting put in the proper places.

The following day, Ava walks through the second-floor home for the final time and going up and down the stairs, which caused her horrible diabetic nerve pain, one final time. Though she still has to do laundry every month or so and things are finally 100 percent moved in on the afternoon of June 2, 2023. Caprice, Ella, Breeanna, and Ava are finally getting settled in but there's still some work to be done.

Part 3[edit]

Ava is running errands to Menards location at Southtown Crossing Boulevard as Fort Wayne CitiLink only goes to that location while the Illinois Road and Maysville Road lcoations lack such public transportation access. Caprice and Ella continue to adjust as Ava spends most of the weekend re-connecting and re-assembling items and hanging up decorations with Caprice paying a visit to the dining area-turned-office of Ava's as Ava spends a majority of the weekend hanging up things in the living room. It is revelaed that Ava has made upgrades and bought surge protectors with USB ports, a Ring Doorbell Holder, Caprice's Cat Diffuser, and pet feeder containers (suggested to Ava in "Donna Doogan Presents: After the Cockroach Rush"). After some time, the majority of things are placed in the proper places and Caprice was not in the mood to see Ava's progress while Ava attempts to get Ella's nails trimmed but Ella fights Ava's efforts, in a stark contrast to Caprice and they are eventually trimmed.

Part 4[edit]

While Caprice is in her cat tree with Ella misbehaving, Ava is out running errands and Breeanna is waiting for Ava to return and cook dinner, but Breeanna goes to McDonald's after she could not wait for Ava. When Ava finally returns home after 9pm after being on the Fort Wayne CitiLink, she managed to settle for tortila chips and salsa with cream cheese while Caprice and Ella show off their new pet ID tags and Breeanna is watching the NBA Finals in which the Denver Nuggets defeat the Miami Heat four games to one.

However, Ava has run into a little financial problem and getting things up to par and code is taking more time and money than Ava expected. To Ava's surprise, Caprice is adjusting better than Ava expected thanks to the cat diffuser. Ava and Breeanna assess and realize that there were more items than first thought as a majority of the issues Ava dealt with was casued by people in Marion and/or Fort Wayne who thought they knew Ava when they really did not over the years.

Part 5[edit]

The episode begins with another lesbian sex scene between Ava and Breeanna (similar to "Ava's Got Her Wicked Game On") and the sex scene is replaced by a lesbian kissing scene from Being Erica. The episode then cuts to Breeanna delivering a nearly five-minute-long speech about her pregnancy, reproductive rights of the LGBT individuals, the events that transpired since "Breaking Boiling Point", and after Ava gets out of the shower after a lesbian sex scene, Ava does a load of laundry at the new building though she does so without a cane to walk with and the pain is not as bad as seven months earlier and continues to get things put away and back to normal.

As Caprice and Ella notice a car parked in the handicapped parking spot without a placard and/or plates, Ava realizes that getting the disability plates and placard are easier said than done. As Ava starts walking without a cane for the first time since Halloween (October 31) 2022, Karly Jameson (not seen) notices the "bullying maintenance guy" (seen in "Ava's Got Her Wicked Game On" and "Donna Doogan Presents: After the Cockroach Rush"), Ava has taken precautions to avoid a confrontation would likely cause Ava to have high blood sugar and/or a third heart attack since 2009 with a second in 2023.

For the first time since June 2022, Caprice is finally adjusting to the move in a more positive manner yet admits to Ava she hisses at certain individuals that cause trouble to Ava. Additionally, a policy of Ava's changed to allow alcohol-friendly medication that went into effect on Ava's 40th birthday even though she is not considered to be an alcoholic, yet she does occasionally drinks.

The episode ends with Caprice sniffing at security cameras, something that Zahra and Mandy Mittens from Ninerlives of Pittsburgh, PA/Huntsville, AL/Atlanta, GA does often and Ella needed to use the restroom outside and barks towards Ava.

Part 6[edit]

Continuing from the previous episode, Caprice continues to think that the cameras are snacks while Ava is away donating clothes to Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana (particularly the East State Boulevard location). Afterwards, Ava has her three grandchildren (Alisan, Michael II, and Leah), whose voices are heard, and they get more than bargained for as Ava swore in front of but not at her grandchildren at the Meijer location on Lima Road, Target on Coldwater Road, and Walmart on Coldwater Road. Ava deals with not only road construction and detours, she deals with supply chain issues, presumably after COVID-19 stuck three years earlier and Ava notices that food inflation and high prices are forcing Ava to choose between getting the necessary items or filming Caprice & Ella: The Movie and revelas to be a brutal weekend for Ava, Breeanna, Caprice, and Ella.

Part 7[edit]

The episode begins with Ava encountering a Kroger parking lot closed due to repaving. Meanwhile, Karly and Rachael discuss their concerns at the Salsa Grille on the southwest side of Fort Wayne. The episode continues as Ava is attempting to beat a deadline as well as meeting her overall obligations on time as a year has passed after her lease at Black Pine Flats was not being renewed and she is STILL dealing with the aftermath as she is still dealing with mild foot pain. By that point, Ava has already blown through her grocery budget in order to meet her goals set by Ibotta. She is also deals with nearly dangerous high blood sugar levels, yet rearranges a few security cameras and it has appeared that Caprice learned something from Zahra from nealry 500+ miles away in Alabama while Ella leaves a stinky surprise on Ava's shoe and gets in trouble.

Part 8[edit]

The episode begins with more road construction is happening as the asphalt is being repaired but the potholes were not filled and while Ava is outside, Ava makes a visit to the old building's laundry facilities as she did not have time prior to moving out of the building. The first floor has not only helped Ava, but might possibly have helped Caprice to an extent. Ava inches closer to the finish line as a Hoosier Millionaire T-Shirt Ava won from the Hoosier Lottery in 2004 is retired and Ava discusses her memories of the Indiana lottery game show that ran from 1989 until 2005. The episode ends as it is the beginning of July 2023 and now off to a bad start in 29 years.

Part 9[edit]

A year has passed since Ava asked for help when she needed the help the most after her lease at Black Pine Flats was not renewed and eventually found another place to live at Golfview Apartments. Ava got more than bargined for as she did avoid homelessness but was harassed, bullied, and shamed in the process as the overall damage to Ava was already done. A financial burden has struck the Zinn home and is off to its worst since Ava experienced an arson 29 years earlier. However, an hour prior to the July 8, 2023 gunfire at Glenbrook Square Mall, Ava was a mile north of the mall's location and just finished running an errand at Coldwater Crossing. The shooting at Glenbrook Square Mall hit Hank and George that day as they visited the food court earlier in the morning. They, along with Ava, Rachael, Karly, Donna, and Jackson, review the footage and discuss ideas on how to deal with the bullying maintenance guy. They discuss burning a pair of the maintenance guy's pants on a charcoal grill, with Hank and George, being security guards, opposing it on the grounds that Karly, Breeanna, Ava, Rachael, and/or Donna could be arrested for arson regardless, while Karly says that maintenace guys like the one who has been bullying Ava never change. Moments later, Ava reveals that she had not been to a local food pantry since the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, something Ava had been doing from 2002 to 2018 when she lived in Marion and from 2018 to 2020 in Fort Wayne. the miniseries ends as Caprice and Ella are playing as usual yet are playing a lot nicer albeit Ava has to tell Caprice to stop slapping Ella.

The conclusion of the miniseries comes to a close as a year has passed after Ava got alerted that her lease at Black Pine Flats was not renewed due to no longer welcoming Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) but the damage was already done by the time things finally get resolved. Meanwhile, an active shooter situation at Glenbrook Mall in Fort Wayne, Indiana on July 8, 2023, struck a nerve with Ava's security guards, Hank and George, and they kick around ideas on how to deal with the maintenance guy that has been bullying Ava and five other female tenants as Ava reviews Ring doorbell footage while the crew discuss ways to catch him in the act and doing so within Indiana law.

Additionally, Ava reveals she hadn't gone to a food pantry since the early stages of COVID-19 pandemic. The miniseries ends as Caprice and Ella play a little bit nicer as Breeanna gave birth off-screen.

Production[edit]

Development[edit]

The miniseries was produced by the Ava Zinn-owned Aeverine Zinn Digital Media Group and Aeverine Zinn Productions, with Zinn serving as the executive producer.

Casting[edit]

Because the miniseries spans nine season five episodes in the original airing, yet Zinn made it a 10-part episode for the syndicated version.

Caprice, Ella, Ava Zinn, Breeanna Sorensen, Rachael Passalt, and Karly Jameson reprise their Caprice & Ella roles for the miniseries.

Cultural References[edit]

  • The episode is a follow-up to Breaking Boiling Point.
  • As in Breaking Boiling Point, a Queen of the Willis reference is Crystal Gayle, in which she serves as a recurring character and running gag in Queen of the Willis. Usually, she appears when a character on that show is in hot water and needs a distraction to get out of trouble. They'll break the fourth wall to say "Ladies and gentlemen, Ms. Crystal Gayle of Wabash, Indiana", segwaying into an actual musical number by the celebrity, which usually takes like two or three minutes, because they play the full song.
  • Just as in Breaking Boiling Point, the closing scene parodies the 1990-93 CBS series Top Cops and the 1993-98 first-run syndicated series Real Stories of the Highway Patrol. This time around, Karly Jameson provides the narration instead of the narrator/voice-over of Top Cops and Beau Weaver of Real Stories of the Highway Patrol.
  • Instead of the usual end credits, the end credits in part 9 parodies those of the series finale of the original run of Magnum, P.I. ("Resolutions")[2]. At the end of the credits, the scene is projected to the TV set in Ava's living room at Golfview Apartments. We briefly see the Aeverine Zinn Productions logo. The camera then zooms out from the TV set and we see Ava Zinn in street clothes. She points a TV remote clicker at the camera and says simply, "good night and May Fort Wayne's Good News Be Yours". The screen goes blank, end of the miniseries!

Critical reception[edit]

Music[edit]

The opening theme is "Theme from MacGyver" performed by Daniel Caine and the ending theme is from the series finale of the original run of Magnum, P.I.. On the DVD version, an extended theme is shown while the eight epidsodes have the usual opening theme.
