Main characters[edit]

Caprice Zinn[edit]

Caprice Haley Zinn (herself, voiced by Ava Zinn) - Caprice is the cat Ava adoped from the then-Allen County SPCA (now Humane Fort Wayne) shelter in February 2021. After being adopted by Ava, Caprice becomes a foul-mouthed cat and attempts to gain control of her destiny. However, most of the time, Caprice seems like a grumpy and cynical cat that only cares about herself and is always trying to get rid of Ava, Ella, and later Breeanna in the house she lives, but sometimes, in a hidden way, shows compassion for her family.

While Caprice is usually a pushover, she can get angry when pushed too far, though such occasions are usually rare. This can be seen in the episodes "Caprice & Ella Goes to College with Ava" and both Breakiing Boiling Point miniseries, where she strongly insults and defames Ava and Breeanna for their inconsiderate actions toward her. Many of the show's storylines about Caprice involve her trying to improve her life as a former community cat as a kitten, find a boyfriend, and reaching breaking points with her family and others who victimize her. She often becomes obsessed with male cats who show any kindness or affection to her.

Ella Zinn[edit]

Main article: Ella (Caprice & Ella)

Gabriella Lauren "Ella" Zinn (herself, voiced by Ava Zinn) - Ella is the dog Ava adopted in March 2021 and has lived with Ava since. Ella, when she was a puppy, was very playful and used to almost always attack Caprice, who, in return, would smack her, causing Ava to tell her to stop.

Similar to Caprice, Ella is portrayed as a typical canine, albeit one who comes off as being good-natured and easy-going. As such, the character tends to take things in stride, not worrying about much, seemingly enjoying her position in life.

Ella usually loves and cares for Caprice deeply, and the two are frequently shown to get along very well. Up until sometime during the seventh season, Ella is more socially active at pet day care than Caprice, having various canine friends.

As the series progresses and Caprice is seen more often with her group of feline friends, Ella's social status is reduced to the point of being unpopular and virtually friendless. While just as socially looked down upon as Caprice (though to a lesser extent of being bullied), she is outwardly confident and spirited, mostly when dealing with the ups and downs of being a canine, standing up to people who wrong[1], harass, stalk[2], bully, or shame Ava[3].

Ava Zinn[edit]

Main article: Ava Zinn

Aeverine Frathleen "Ava" Zinn (herself) - Ava is the patriarch of the household and the primary protagonist who is a film/TV producer/director as well as broadcast jounralist and is a retired webmaster. She is the transgendered wife of Breeanna, father of Samantha (1993-2020), Thomas (1997-2006), Tiffani (1999-2021), Sheryl (1999-2009), Tabitha (2003-2018), Baby Kenny (2015-2018), Lyssa (2023-), and Sierra (2023-), paternal grandfather of Alisan, Christina, and Pia, and maternal grandfather of Michael II and Leah as well as being the owner of Caprice and Ella. Ava is also the aunt of Albert's children Michael I "Weasel", Leanna, Shayla, and Reneé as well as grandaunt of Clarissa, Bender, Cara, Elsie, Haley, Tilly, Siobhan, Vanniza, and Yancy Zinn. Ava's enthusiasm for her career is not usually shared by other characters in the series. Several episodes show Ava escaping from her troubled home life by working on her home when times are tough.

Ava's personality has evolved throughout Caprice & Ella. She is commonly the voice of reason to Caprice and Ella's shenanigans, but in some episodes she can act darker than normal and sometimes shows a taste for sadomasochism. Beginning in the fourth season, Ava became "a little more snarky and sassy and sexual," especially in the storyline of Ava and Breeanna.

Ava has been compared to Ava Willis, the transgendered wife of title character on Zinn's earlier series Queen of the Willis. Throughout Caprice & Ella's run, Ava's personality appears to primarily be built around the image of the all American, authoritarian family transwoman. She is set in her ways and generally afraid of taking risks, but generally a good person. Ava is a product of a bygone era - always faithful, friendly, firm, reasonable, well-read, and hard-working. Much of the series revolves around Ava's desire to do the right thing compared to much of the rest of the people around her who would rather cheat, lie or exploit; however, the people who try to take advantage of Ava tend to regret it because Ava is tougher and a lot shrewder than they thought. Although she is traditionally conservative in her attitude, in how she dislikes change and novel situations, she can adapt to them quite well, quickly mastering unfamiliar social milieus. She can be pushed too far on occasion, usually by her neighbors and friends Karly Jameson, Rachael Passalt, and Donna Doogan. A running joke throughout the series is an angry Ava yelling "I'm gonna kick your ass!" This is just a threat; she rarely, if ever, harms anyone, though she has literally kicked at least two people in the posterior out of anger (Harmony Bokamp in Caprice & Ella: The Movie). Ava's honesty and naivety often get her in unpredictable and troublesome situations. Ultimately, Ava cares for the people around her, particularly her family and friends and is always out to do what is right. One characteristic that Ava shows is when she lies to someone, she turns her head or looks around the room.

Ava is historically known for her modest start in the business and general business smarts. These attributes have been worn away by life and been replaced with many habits which often come in the way of her business decisions.

In recent seasons, Ava began to engage in less notable activities such as drinking, smoking, vaping, frequenting liquor stores (particularly Belmont Beverage). Besides all of her shortcomings, only Rachelle, Hank (before his death), and George have rarely seen beyond the original perception of Ava being a well-kept, honorable and smart business leader unless the consequences of her decisions are going to seriously negatively effect coworkers, customers and family life. Despite all of her shortcomings, Ava is known to come around when times get hard and make things right for herself and the people around her.

Though she still truly loves Breeanna, Ava is somewhat promiscuous and has never cheated on her, Ava has previously been in relationships with Amanda Davidson, Elisa Everman, Angie Nieves, Christy Johnson, Kymberly Alvaraz, Marti McDaniel. Ava's interests are usually pursued in an attempt to separate from Breeanna and her antics to a degree, or when she feels Breeanna's being controlling.

She is a noted do it yourself (DIY) enthusiast and prides herself on homeownership (as such Ava states she "feels more of a homeowner than a renter"), to the point where she completely distrusts repairmen and refuses initially to call them during times of crisis, even during a few incidents where she was unable to solve the problem on her own. She is skilled in home repair for the most part and rarely with lawn and garden and automotive repair. She meticulously obeys virtually every building code in the city ordinance. She gets a great deal of joy engaging in home repair and her level of skill (and attention to detail) was repeatedly shown to exceed that of workmen she employed.

Her favorite sports team is the Indianapolis Colts (though she rarely expresses much interest in the NBA and Major/Minor League Baseball teams in the Fort Wayne and Indianapolis areas like the Pacers, the TinCaps, or the Indians) though she has indicated that being a Chicago Bears fan wasn't out of the question because they aren't in the same NFL conference as Indianapolis and would only require any rooting interest decisions if the Colts and Bears somehow faced each other in a Super Bowl, which was the case in Super Bowl XLI. She also has not ruled out being a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres. Ava is a proud Hoosier, having grown up in Van Buren, Indiana. She was, however, born a boy in and spent the first ten months of her life in the Chicago suburb of Worth, Illinois.

Breeanna Zinn (previously Sorensen)[edit]

Main article: Breeanna Zinn

Breeanna Reneé Zinn (née Sorensen) (herself) - Breeanna is the part-time matriarch of the household splitting her time with Ava in Fort Wayne and her own home in New Haven (later the far northeast side of Fort Wayne). She is also the paternal step-grandmother of Alisan, Christina, and Pia and the maternal step-grandmother of Michael and Leah as well as the mother of Lyssa and Sierra. Breeanna was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and raised on her family's cattle ranch until 1996 when they moved to Lafayette, Indiana. Breeanna is a meteorologist and scientist in Fort Wayne, specializing in Earth and Physical Science despite having a terrible grasp of the concept's latter. Breeanna resembles in appearance the live-action version of Kellie Willis character from Queen of the Willis. Despite boasting of her intelligence, she has been the victim of manipulation. She has darker blond hair hair but often wears different outfits.

In a coincidence, Breeanna is almost the exact opposite of Ava and a stark contrast to Ava's first girlfriend, Amanda Davidson. Depicted as restrained and safe, Ava is said to be wild and reckless. Breeanna was denounced by Caprice and Ella at first, arguably due to the jealousy that Ava had been in previous relationships. However, Caprice and Ella soon warmed-up to Breeanna, developed a family relationship and noticed she had qualities that Amanda sorely lacked. In the sixth season, Breeanna marries Ava and becomes known as "Breeanna Zinn."

Lyssa Zinn[edit]

Main article: Lyssa Zinn

Lyssa Cassadee Zinn (herself) - Lyssa is the eighth child of Ava Zinn and the second child of Breeanna Sorensen. She is the twin sister of Sierra and the paternal half-sister of Samantha (1993-2020), Thomas (1997-2006), Tiffani (1999-2021), Sheryl (1999-2009), Tabitha (2003-2018), and Baby Kenny (2015-2018). Lyssa is also the aunt of Alisan, Michael II, Leah, Pia, and Christina. Lyssa was born after production of Breaking Boiling Point 2: A Renter's Revenge ended on July 21, 2023.

Sierra Zinn[edit]

Main article: Sierra Zinn

Sierra Alexandra Zinn (herself) - Sierra is the seventh child of Ava Zinn and the first child of Breeanna Sorensen. Sierra is the twin sister of Lyssa and is the paternal half-sister of Samantha (1993-2020), Thomas (1997-2006), Tiffani (1999-2021), Sheryl (1999-2009), Tabitha (2003-2018), and Baby Kenny (2015-2018). Sierra is also the aunt of Alisan, Michael II, Leah, Pia, and Christina. Sierra was born after production of Breaking Boiling Point 2: A Renter's Revenge ended on July 21, 2023.

Karly Jameson[edit]

Main article: Karly Jameson

Chelsea "Karly" Jameson (née Ryder) (herself) - Karly is the primary narrator of many Caprice & Ella episodes and appears on-camera occasionally. She, along with Rachael Passalt, are close friends of Ava Zinn.

Rachael Passalt[edit]

Main article: Rachael Passalt

Rachael Valerie Passalt (herself) - Rachael is the secondary narrator of Caprice & Ella. She, along with Karly Jameson, are close friends of Ava Zinn.

Elisa Everman[edit]

Main article: Elisa Everman

Elisa Marie Everman (herself) - Elisa is Tiffani and Sheryl's cantankerous mother, Jenna Zinn's mother-in-law, and the paternal grandmother of Alisan, Pia, and Christina. She has a hair-trigger temper and practically no respect for her children, daughter-in-law, her eldest granddaughter Alisan (to a degree), or her ex-girlfriend Ava, although she has a soft spot for her twin granddaughters Pia and Christina. Despite her many shortcomings, she occasionally showed a softer side. She spent three years in prison for bank robbery to pay for Ava's expenses in August 2018. Despite this setback, she previously earned a living as a photographer. After Elisa and her then-second boyfriend Ava (then known as Frank as the father of Tiffani and Sheryl) broke up in 2000 and in 2018, when Elisa attended what is now Purdue Fort Wayne, in 2000, and after breaking up with the now-Ava in 2018, she got into a relationship with a munch-younger guy named Dillon. She was immensely proud of her service as a photographer. Though her claim of fighting "slotts" (sluts) was proven false and her claim of punching "25 girls" was dubious, her participation in several of the nastiest battles in the Indiana Women's Prison was confirmed. Instead of addressing Jenna by her name she calls her "Tiffani's wife".
