"Pilot" is the pilot episode of the American animated television series Queen of the Willis. Written by series creator Ava Zinn, A rough-cut version of this episode originally aired on December 20, 2003 on ATE Media, a final version was later aired on August 12, 2006, following World News Tonight on WMRI.
The basis for "Pilot", as well as Queen of the Willis a whole, was Zinn's thesis film Frank's Life, created in 1994 while she was a student at R.J. Baskett Middle School. A sequel was conceived in 2000 called Frank & Brittani, which aired in 2001 as a segment of ATE Media's Saturday Morning. Both shorts caught the attention of Patrice Rafferty, who contacted Zinn in 2001 to develop a series based on the films. A hand-drawn pilot was created by Zinn with a budget of $10,000, which led to the series being accepted for production and the pilot being remade and extended into its broadcast form. It was rated TV-PG-L (TV-14-L in off-network syndication).
Critical responses to the episode were mostly positive.
In the fifth season episode "Quillsville Cold Case", which premiered on April 22, 2011, Quillsville Police Detective Lilly Rush investigates the events of "Pilot".
