| The series finale tells the story of Heather preventing Angie and Ava from moving on with their lives. However, Angie gets in a drunk driving accident and dies, leaving Ava a widow until she starts dating and eventually marry Kellie Martin. Heather dates Nadine while Tabby and Shushu finally get their pet treats for the first time.
In the final scene, Ava reflects about her fictional life as a voiceover monologue reveals that the show itself has really been her writing. She says that while the book she was writing was based on her life, she changed what she didn't like. For instance: in reality, Angie had in real life died of a cocktail of drugs and alchool; Mandy—not Albert—was gay. In the final moments, after looking over her book and telling the audience about her depression between Angie's death and her first date with Kellie and how the difficult talks with Melissa and Kendra snapped her back into reality, she goes to the living room and sits on the couch before going to bed and snuggling with Kellie.
