Some unusual, and confusing sequences of events can occur during replay stoppages, and most have been addressed through rules clarifications. For instance, if a team commits a delay of game penalty (before the snap), the opposing team still has the opportunity to challenge, provided it is done before the ensuing snap. Also, inside the two-minute warning, if a team calls a timeout in the normal course of play, but the replay assistant calls for a challenge of that play, the initial timeout is ignored and restored in favor of the replay stoppage.

;Hall of Fame Nominations

;Hall of Fame Nominations

Revision as of 10:38, 8 December 2016

The following rule changes were approved for the eighth season (they are both subject to become permanent features or scrapped in the ninth season):

  • For the first time in the site's history, the villians on the red and blue teams can support female contestants as his flex pick in addition to the Vote for the Worst picks, similar to the DWTS rules for the pink and purple teams adopted in the sixth season (the females on the pink and purple team will still respectively support the male and female celebrities in DWTS while the males are not allowed to participate in DWTS and the females are not allowed to particpate in Got Talent). The goal for this rule change is in part of the key females 18-49 demographic.[1]
  • Moderators committing three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the same cycle will be automatically ejected from the competition and all his or her supported contestants flexed out and lose a flex pick in addition to participate in the following fall cycle of DWTS and/or SYTYCD. This was in response to Hillary Matthewson committing five personal fouls in one cycle against fellow pink team moderator Perri Johnson without being ejected. This change is being referred to as the "Hillary Matthewson Rule". NoSirGifts officials, however, concede that this new rule would not have ejected Matthewson since she committed personal fouls and not unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.[2]

Additional supported contestant and moderator rule updates made for the eighth season include:[3]

  • Refining what is a reviewable supported contestant, including the following:
    • Contestants involving possession.
    • Contestants involving one's hometown.
    • Contestants governed by the boundary lines of the moderator's home market.
    • Season Administration (which includes correct application of the voting rules, spot of the foul for penalty application, and competition status (running clock, not running clock, end of round/cycle/season)
  • Mandating moderators, as a condition of their moderator agreements on Vote for the Girls, he or she must either live in or relocate to either the Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, or Lafayette, IN market as part of their commitments to Vote for the Girls and/or have an origin where NoSirGifts owns a fantasy television station. This subsequently caused the news staffs at Fort Wayne CBS/independent duopoly (and NoSirGifts flagship station) WTOR/WXXC, Indianapolis CBS affiliate WIFX and Lafayette Fox/CBS duopoly WLIN/WWKI to be respectively shuffled in March 2015, July 2016 and January 2015, resulting in most of the moderator panelists anchoring the weekend editions or the weekday afternoon newscasts. This was adopted in response to Kymberly Alvaraz relocating from Colorado to Indiana in 2014. The following moderators except Ava Zinn, Holly Everman, Hillary Mathewson, Archibald Coolranch, Clark Jones, and Kathi Jameson are part of the news staff at the three NoSirGifts-owned CBS stations:
    • Kymberly Alvaraz and Kendra Ray currently co-anchor the weekend morning newscast for WTOR and WXXC with meteorologist Luka Runecraft.
    • Thia Tola currently anchors WIFX's weekend morning newscast with Bill Delagatto as the meteorologist, who also delivers weather forecasts for WLIN and WWKI.
    • Perri Johnson and Donna Doogan currently co-anchor the weekend evening newscast for WTOR and WXXC.
    • Kye Sanchez and Tavon Savage deliver sports reports for WTOR and WXXC. Tavon Savage was offered the sports director position at WTOR, but declined the job for Vote for the Girls.
    • Phil Allen anchors the weekend sports report for WIFX.
    • Marti McDaniel and Lanise White co-anchor WIFX's midday and afternoon newscasts.
    • Breeanna Sorensen declined the chief meteorologist position at WLIN, but joined WTOR as a meteorologist usually filling in for Lisa Shingleton or Alicia Williams.
    • Tracia Matthewson anchors the weekday afternoon and midday newscasts on WTOR. However, her wife, Hillary, previously anchored on the weekends and currently anchors the morning news on Fort Wayne Fox-owned WINO.
    • Ann Dwyar anchors the weekday morning newscasts on WIFX with long-time WIFX anchor Rick Cortos.
    • Kylie Dwyar anchors the weekday morning newscasts on WTOR with long time WTOR anchor Bob Imperial and Lynne Jackson.
    • Glenn Swaringen anchors the weather segment for the WTOR-produced weekend noon newscast on WXXC and usually filling in for Jillian Gates or Alicia Williams.
    • Rachael Passalt currently anchors the midday newscast on WTOR and WXXC.
    • Karly Jameson hosts her own syndicated talk show that will begin airing in January 2017 with Danni McClannahan as the announcer.

Moderator's Challenge

A new supported contestant review system (similar to the NFL's instant replay system since the 1999 NFL season) is adopted to aid officiating. :

    • In each competition, each moderator or villain has three challenges that will start a review. Each challenge will require the use of a moderator or villain's flex pick. If the challenge is successful, the flex pick is restored.
  • Inside of the semi-final of each competition, and during all finales, all reviews will be initiated by a Replay Assistant. The Replay Assistant has an unlimited number of reviews, regardless of how many flex picks each moderator or villain has left. And no flex pick will be charged for any review by the Replay Assistant.
    • All supported contestant reviews will be conducted by Zinn on a field-level monitor. A decision will be reversed only when there is indisputable visual evidence to overturn the call. Zinn has 48 hours to review the play.
    • Zinn will be notified of a replay request or challenge via a specialized electronic pager with a vibrating alert. Each moderator would also have a red flag to use as a backup to get the attention of the officials to challenge a play.
    • The replay system will only cover the following situations:
      • Current supported contestant previously won a competition (it is often called the Mannepat Molloy Rule)
      • Judging complete/incomplete/intercepted
      • Decision in regard to an "Alex & Sierra" pick
      • Reinstatement of a previously eliminated contestant

Zinn, along with the producers and legal team, has 48 hours to watch the instant replay of the play and decide if the original call was correct. The producers, legal team, and Zinn must see "incontrovertible visual evidence" for a call to be overturned. If the challenge fails, the original ruling stands and the challenging moderator or villain is penalized by losing a flex pick. If the challenge overrules the previous call, the call is reversed; should there have been an official change of outcome, the outcome will be changed again, resulting in the original outcome and with no loss of a flex pick.

Because of the limited number of challenges, and the possible penalty of a lost flex pick, the moderators and villains typically reserve their challenges for key plays. A questionable call may not be challenged once the next stage of the competition is underway, so he or she may be forced to make a quick decision without the benefit of seeing a replay on television or on the venue's screen. Often the producers will signal to the moderator or villain if they believe the play should be challenged.

If a play is overturned, the official is also responsible for making any related revisions to the game clock if applicable, especially in late, game-ending situations. For instance, if a player makes a reception and runs a long distance, several seconds may run off the game clock. If the play is challenged and the catch overturned, the game clock would be reset to have stopped at the moment of incompletion (presumably adding time back to the clock).

Note that the spot of the ball may be challenged in certain cases. In such cases, a decision to respot the football is not enough to win the challenge; only when the ball is respotted and the ruling on the field is reversed by remeasurement is the challenging team not charged a timeout.

Moderator's Hall of Fame Nomination

For the first time in the site's history, the male and female moderators will each nominate one previously supported contestant or flex-pick into the web site's Hall of Fame who were previously eliminated at any point in previous competitions in the original season or show.

As the defending moderator champion Ava Zinn and Kymberly Alvaraz will nominate five supported contestants, Lanise White with four (three due to her moderator victory on Dancing with the Stars 22 and one as the runner-up moderator on The Voice 10), and as the runner-up moderators of The Voice 9, Kendra Ray and Tracia Ward will each nominate two.

For the female moderators on the pink and purple team, she can allow one supported female contestant, male flex pick, or male-female duos from any competition within the last five seasons. Meanwhile, the villains on the blue and red team will have the chance to bring a previously boycotted contestant not supported on the site prior to the implementation of flex picks in addition to the supported female contestant, male flex pick, or male-female duos.

The nominated supported contestants were confirmed as follows;

  2. Reason: .
  3. 3.0 3.1 Reason: Ava gave no reason, though Kymberly effectively backed the supported contestants her home state of Colorado.
  4. 4.0 4.1 Reason: Ava Zinn stated that after five years she had developed strong respect for the female contestants she met when she auditioned for American Idol 11 in Pittsbugh (most notably Erika van Pelt, Crystal Bowersox, and Haley Reinhart). After some consideration, Zinn chose Jessica Sanchez and Lauren Aliana the better candidates to be in the Hall of Fame.
  5. Reason: .
  6. Reason: .
  7. Reason: Neither Lanise or Danni gave a reason, though Lanise effectively backed both her supported contestant on Dancing with the Stars and the network affiliation of her former employer, ABC affiliate WXWI-FTV.
  8. Reason: Neither Lanise or Danni gave a reason, though Lanise effectively backed both her supported contestant on The Voice and her home state of Wisconsin.
  9. Reason: Neither Lanise or Danni gave a reason, though Lanise effectively backed her supported contestant on The Voice.
  10. Reason: .
  11. Reason: .
  12. Reason: Neither Peta-Alyce or Nadia gave a reason, though Peta-Alyce effectively backed her home market of New York City as well as her supported contestants on The Voice since it was both Wé McDonald and Ali Caldwell still in the competition, Nadia decided to put the decision up to the public while also revealing the Moderators' Save will be used to decline the Vote for the Girls loss. Wé McDonald made The Voice 11 Final
