This template encapsulates the color association used for its parent template. Its only parameter is background (badly named, for backward compatibility). It expands to a color name, if one exists among the 16 names supported by the HTML 4.0 standard (aqua, black, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, navy, olive, purple, red, silver, teal, white, and yellow), or a "color hex" otherwise.
