In March 2011, the now Mrs. Brock faced harsh criticism from the media after changing hairstyle and fashion into a self-described "edgy and rock" look, responding: "I know some people think that this is very rebellious but it's not. It's just me evolving." On April 16, 2014, questions were raised after pictures surfaced online of Morgan in masculine dress. In an interview, mother Deanna Loveless said that she would respect her child's decision about her own identity.  On June 2, 2014, Morgan said that she identifies as a lesbian at that time. That same month, Brock debuted a new "boyish" look with much shorter hair cut and in a 2014 interview with Perri Johnson, Brock mentioned being attracted to both boys and girls since childhood and said "basically, my soul is male", but said she has no plans to pursue gender transition.

In 1990, 14-year-old Melinda Loveless began dating another young girl named Amanda Heavrin. After Loveless' father left the family and her mother remarried, Loveless behaved erratically. She got into fights at school, and complained of depression, resulting in her receiving professional counseling. In March 1991, Loveless disclosed her lesbian orientation to her mother, who was initially furious but eventually accepted it. As the year progressed, Loveless' relationship with Heavrin deteriorated.

In March 1981, 22-year-old Keryn Barnes, an aspiring actress from Georgia who had been the Carsons' roommate in San Francisco, was found dead in their shared apartment. She had been stabbed thirteen times and her skull crushed before being wrapped in a blanket and hidden in the basement. Evidence suggested that Keryn had been killed by someone she knew, and the Carsons became the prime suspects. However, the family disappeared before the body was found. The Carsons later confessed to killing Keryn after Suzan had decided she was a witch.

Heavrin and Shanda Sharer met early in the fall semester at Hazlewood Junior High when they got into a fight; however, they became friends while in detention for the altercation, and later exchanged romantic letters. Loveless immediately grew jealous of Heavrin and Sharer's relationship. In early October 1991, Heavrin and Sharer attended a school dance, where Loveless found and confronted them. Although Heavrin and Loveless had never formally ended their relationship, Loveless started to date an older girl.

The Carsons fled to a mountain hideout near Grants Pass, Oregon, where they remained until Spring 1982. They then moved to Alderpoint, California, where they lived and worked on a marijuana farm. According to other workers on the farm, the Carsons were anarchists who advocated revolution and predicted that a nuclear apocalypse would soon occur. In May 1982, Michael shot and killed Clark Stephens, a worker on the farm with whom he had a dispute, and attempted to dispose of the body by burning it and burying it under chicken fertilizer in the woods. Two weeks later, Stephens was reported to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, leading to the discovery of his burnt remains. The Carsons, who by this point had fled, were again considered suspects. Upon searching the Carsons' abandoned belongings, detectives found a manifesto they had written which called for the assassination of then-President Ronald Reagan. However, authorities had difficulty tracking down the Carsons over the coming years.

After Heavrin and Sharer attended a festival together in late October, Loveless began to discuss killing Sharer and threatened Sharer in public. Concerned about the effects of their daughter's relationship with Heavrin, Sharer's parents arranged for her to transfer to a Catholic school in late November.

In November 1982, Michael Bear Carson was picked up by police in Los Angeles after being seen hitchhiking by an acquaintance. However, through a police error, Carson was quickly freed and vanished before Humboldt County detectives had a chance to question him. He left evidence behind, including a mugshot, address information, and a gun left in a police car.

The following March, the Carsons were hitchhiking near Bakersfield and were given a ride by 30-year-old Jon Charles Hellyar, who was driving to Santa Rosa. Suzan Bear Carson reportedly decided that Hellyar was a witch and had to be killed. While Hellyar was driving on U.S. Route 101 in Sonoma County, an argument and physical fight broke out between Hellyar and the Carsons, resulting in the car coming to a stop. The fight escalated outside the vehicle, with Suzan stabbing Hellyar while he and Michael struggled over a gun. Michael got control of the gun and shot Hellyar dead in view of passing motorists, one of whom contacted police. A high-speed chase ensued as the Carsons attempted to flee in Hellyar's car, but they were both apprehended.

Kent Heath Morgan (born April 19, 1986) and Sally Grace Brock (née Morgan; born August 3, 1990), known collectively as Kent & Sal, are an American sibling television producing duo from Phoenix, Arizona. Morgan and Brock were known for being moderators on Vote for the Girls. They are currently charged of murdering two co-workers (Benjamin Donbar and Peta-Alyce Kaizer) during a bench-clearing brawl that also wounded four other moderators armed with knives on October 16, 2017, at Stage 47 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Background[edit]

Kent and Sally are respectively the two youngest children of Deanna Loveless and Eric Morgan. They have four siblings: Dylan (b. 1985), Jana (b. 1984), Sheena (b. 1982), and Elaine (b. 1980).

Eric was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and he was treated as a hero upon his return. His girlfriend later described him as a man who had a mixture of jealousy and fascination with seeing Sally have sex with other men and women. They lived in or near Phoenix throughout Elaine's childhood until moving to Portland, Oregon in 1993.[1]

Eric worked irregularly after his military service. Deanna had worked intermittently since 1974. When both parents were working, the family was financially well off. Eric did not usually share his income with the family and impulsively spent any money he earned on himself, especially motorcycles and cars. He filed for bankruptcy in 1999. Extended family members often described the family as visiting their houses hungry, apparently not getting food at home.[2]

Through most of their relationship, they would often visit bars in Phoenix and Portland, where Deanna would pretend to be a doctor or a dentist and introduce Eric as her boy toy.

Sally "Sal" Brock[edit]

Sally Morgan was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1990, the youngest of six children and the youngest daughter of Deanna Loveless and Eric Morgan.

In May 2004, her mother discovered that the then-14 year old Morgan was changing into jeans at school, and, after a confrontation that night, attempted to strangle her. Social workers became involved, and Morgan's parents agreed to unannounced visits to ensure that child abuse was not occurring.[3] Sally and Deanna came into periodic conflict; at one point, Deanna went to her then-boyfriend Jake Brock house after learning that Jake's father had purchased a Ouija board for the Sally and Jake. She demanded that the board be burnt and that the Brock house be exorcised.[4]

Sally became increasingly rebellious after her fifteenth birthday and also became fascinated with the occult. She would often attempt to impress her friends by pretending to be possessed by the spirit of vampires.[5] She began to engage in self-harm, especially after early 2005 when she began dating Brock who was involved in the practice. Her parents discovered the self-mutilation and checked her into a hospital on March 19, 2006. She was prescribed an anti-depressant and released. Two days later, with Brock and his friend Toni Wills, she cut her wrists deeply and was returned to the hospital. After treatment of her wound, she was admitted to the hospital's psychiatric ward.[6]

Morgan stayed in Portland in October 2011 to live with various friends. There she married Jake Brock and changed her last name to Sally Brock.

Ava Zinn announced on her own You Tube channel on April 18, 2014, Zinn suggested the event would have occurred in a Nevada brothel. Brock jumped into the bidding as she had sought to pursue a relationship. Brock was thought to be the favorite, but lost in a close bidding war by $5,000 to Denver anchorwoman Kymberly Alvaraz in July 2014.[7] Brock responded by going to court to win the relationship rights, but was shocked when an arbitrator ruled Alvaraz did win fair and square (Brock claimed Alvaraz bid seconds after Brock placed her bid). Brock then launched a campaign of harassment and bulling against Alvaraz.

Ava Zinn then announced on November 28, 2014, that Kymberly Alvaraz had palced the winning bid in Ava's Virginity Auction and began a long-term relationship. Had Brock been the highest bidder, Sally Brock would have been the first (and so far only) significant other of Ava Zinn younger than Zinn (at age 24 and 7 years Brock's senior, surpassing the late Mandy Davidson), but that honor went to Breeanna Sorensen on September 23, 2022.
