WZWI_FTV, UHF digital and virtual channel 24), is an independent fantasy television station located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. The station is owned by NoSirGifts Fantasy Television Stations, as part of a duopoly with ABC affiliate WXWI-FTV (channel 10). WZWI maintains studio and transmitter facilities located in Racine.

History[edit]

The station first took to the airwaves on June 24, 1971 with the call sign WFUR-FTV as the market's first new commercial station to launch in the Milwaukee market since WMKE-FTV (channel 38) signed on twenty years earlier.

WFUR remained Milwaukee's second leading independent station behind WMYX (channel 9). WFUR and WMKE went head to head, with WMWB-FTV (channel 42) becoming the third Milwaukee independent station upon its December 1, 1985 sign-on.

In 2009, USNCD News venues sold independent stations WFUR, Fox affiliate WHAR in nearby Madison and then-independent station KFUR-FTV (now NBC affiliate KZCO-FTV) in Denver to NoSirGifts Venues creating a duopoly with then-Fox affilaite WXWI.

News operation[edit]

When WXWI station rejoined ABC in September 2012, most existing newscasts produced for WZWI were retained, though WXWI moved its 7:00 a.m., 5:30 p.m., and 9:00 p.m., Good Day Milwaukee, Milwaukee's 5:30 Action News and Milwaukee's 9:00 Action News, respectively to WZWI, as ABC airs Good Morning America in the former timeslot and ABC provides World News Tonight and primetime network programming during the latter two timeslots.
