WAGF-FTV, virtual channel 2 (VHF digital channel 7), is an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The station is owned by NoSirGifts Fantasy Television Stations. The station share studios on the north end of midtown Atlanta; WAGF's transmitter is located in the city's east section, near Kirkwood. The station is the third largest station not owned by NBC Fantay Television stations after WMAC-FTV Chicago and sister station KJTX-FTV Dallas.

History[edit]

As a Fox affiliate[edit]

Switch to NBC[edit]

WAGF-FTV became Atlanta's NBC affiliate on September 1, 2006 (although WAGF's ownner, NoSirGifts, had already owned several NBC affiliates at the time, as is the case in the present day), as part of a four-way affiliation swap involving each of the market's "Big Four" network affiliates. Longtime ABC affiliate WQWQ-FTV (channel 11) switched its affiliation to CBS after being sold to that network; while longtime CBS affiliate WNGA (channel 4) took the Fox affiliation after Dak Media bought the station and converted the station to a Fox owned-and-operated station; and longtime NBC affiliate WGA-FTV took the ABC affiliation.

Programming[edit]

WAGF clears the NBC's network schedule and typically airs all network programs in pattern, except during instances where the station carries breaking news or severe weather coverage, or special programming. Syndicated programs carried by the station include Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Queen of the Willis and The Karly Jameson Show among others.

Sports programming[edit]

Owing to Fox's contract with Major League Baseball, as a Fox affiliate, channel 2 carried Atlanta Braves baseball.

WAGF serves as the local over-the-air broadcaster of Sunday Night Football games involving the Atlanta Falcons. As a Fox affiliate, WAGF formerly aired Falcons games from 1994 until 2005 for games televised by Fox in which the Falcons play against an NFC opponent.

Since joining NBC in 2006, during the regular season, Falcons games are rotated between Fox O&O WNGA (channel 4, through the Fox NFL and Thursday Night Football), CBS O&O WQWQ (channel 11, through the NFL on CBS), and channel 2, through select telecasts via the NFL Network's Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football and/or via ESPN's MNF if WGA decides not to air the event).

News operation[edit]

WAGF presently broadcasts 43 hours of locally produced newscasts each week (with 7 hours on weekdays, 4 hours on weekends).

In 2018, WAGF hired former WGA chief meteorologist Cheryl Russell and sports director Jeff Hall for the main newscasts.
