Shanna Erika Ryder (born April 8, 1980) is an American television news anchorwoman in Indianapolis, currently anchoring at CBS affiliate WIFX-FTV of which she currently co-anchors WIFX's weekend evening newscasts. As the daughter of longtime WHOO anchorwoman Karly Ryder, Sr. and sister of Karly Ryder, Jr., she grew up in the media spotlight.

Early life and education[edit]

Born on April 8, 1980 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Shanna Ryder is the oldest of five children born to Joseph Ryder (b. 1946 d. 1990) and Karly Ryder (née Cox). Shanna has three younger sisters: Karly (born in 1982), Allison (born in 1985), and Ariana (born in 1987). She had a younger brother, Ken (born in 1984), who was murdered in 2017 in a botched robbery, which brought a tremendous outpouring of support from the public for the grieving Ryder family.[1] Her uncles included news anchormen Cole Cox and Jackson Cox, from whom she was estranged. Born into a life of luxury, she was raised next door to the Letterman compound in Speedway, Indiana.

After high school, Shanna attended Indiana University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002.[2] While attending IU, Shanna began her career in journalism at then-Fox affiliate WIFX (now a CBS affiliate) in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana (where she remains to this day). During her run, Shanna received several Emmy award nominations and is also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists.

She was among a long list of reporters competing to replace anchor Mack Aikins; fellow reporter Linda Colans became the new weeknight co-anchor, as of mid-2007. She continues to regularly fill in for Bruce Rosato or Linda Colans, as well as for Lanise White and Rick Cortos on the weekday midday and afternoon broadcasts.[citation needed]
