</div></div> The voice actors are not assembled as a group when performing the lines of their characters; rather, each of the voice actors perform their lines privately. The voice actors have stated that because of their personalities and tendency to goof off when together as a group, they would never get anything completed if they performed their lines collectively.[1]

Main characters[edit]

Kendra Kendall[edit]

Kendra Lauren Kendall (born Kennth Albert Kendall, voiced by Ava Zinn) is the title character on Hoosier Anchorwoman! who has an exaggeratedly transgendered feminine voice and manner about her. Kendra is Miles' transgendered wife (formerly husband prior to swapping genders) and the father of Samantha, Allison, and Jackie. Kendra is the ex-husband of Tiffani Donovan.

As the Kendall family breadwinner, Kendra is a television news anchoroman at WMIA CBS 28 in Michiana Falls, Indiana. Early on in the series, Kendra was exaggeratedly patriotic and Conservative.[2] Her character, however, has progressed over the course of the series from the ultra right-wing it had been. All the same however, Kendra has proven to be drastic and extreme in numerous other ways beyond politics.[3] She is often shown rashly taking extreme measures in ways that are conspicuously destructive, disastrous, and life-threatening to others.[2] Making her extreme-measure taking worse, Kendra is utterly inconsiderate and insensitive, thus she does not stop to think of how others are negatively impacted, nor does she care. Not a stranger to going to any and all lengths to achieve her desired ends—even to the point of shamelessly harming others—Kendra is characterized as very dog-eat-dog. Aside from her thoughtlessly drastic and endangering behaviors, she has an endearing and sensitive side as well. It has been revealed that she very much desires fatherly love and attention but has always lacked this. Kendra's parents separated when she was very young (later learned because of Kendra herself in an unaired episode); thus she has a father (Albert Kendall) who was not around much and mistreated her, eventually leading to her gender transition.

Miles Kednall[edit]

Miles Kendall (née Morgan and born Marissa Katie Morgan, voiced by Luka Runecraft) is Kendra's husband and the mother of Jackie, Allison and Samantha. Indignant, Miles can usually be seen nagging and scolding his family (particularly Kendra) over their wrongdoings. Miles often nags at his family to uphold certain virtues and over any unwholesome or reprehensible behaviors they engage in.[4] Ironically, it is mostly in the midst of all her moralizing and urging others to do the right thing that he demonstrates blatant inappropriateness, indecorum, and inelegance. Sporadically while engaged in moralizing others, Miles will randomly throw in remarks and behaviors that are in bad taste and lack all propriety. Adding to his paradoxical nature, Miles' behaviors have been known to become downright immoral and sometimes even fiendish, all the while trying to get others to live more wholesomely and do what is right. For example, in the episode "The Boring Transman," Miles made efforts to get Kendra to be a more civilized and respectable wife. In the process, he deceived her into thinking she was an entirely different person after she got struck with amnesia. Another example, in the episode "Can I Be Cindy With You," Miles was disgruntled by the fact that he and Kendra were not a closer couple. To achieve this, he encroached in on Kendra's girls' night using a female disguise (reprising his life as Marissa as Miles) for extended periods of time.[5] Miles has also been shown to have a randomly wacky and peculiar side.

Samantha Kendall[edit]

Samantha Kendall-Dailey (voiced by Tracia Matthewson) is Kendra and Miles' new-age hippie daughter and college-aged eldest sister of Allison and Jackie. One to stand up for her beliefs, Samantha is passionate, insistent and vocal in her convictions. In mentality, she is portrayed as Liberal, what was originally intended to be the antithesis to her father's ultra-conservative mentality. These character traits were particularly emphasized in the show's beginnings back when Samantha was a focal character in the program; however, they were heavily toned down after early seasons. Intuitive and insightful, Samantha is able to instinctively grasp the hidden, inner, and obscure nature of situations. As examples, instantly upon entering the room in the episode "Finger Lending Good," Samantha realizes what Kendra and Jackie are up to in trying to get Alec to hug them so as to lose his finger for engaging in a vice.[4] As another example, in another unaired episode when the essence of Kayla has entered Kendra's body and taken control over it, she attempts to deceive Samantha and Miles into thinking she is truly Kendra; however, Samantha instantaneously and lackadaisically acknowledges that it is Kayla. Samantha can also be casually rude and insulting, particularly towards her sisters, Allison and Jackie. Several story arcs have been used with regards to Samantha's romantic relationship to Alec. Back when the two were dating, they had several breakups. In one of their breakups, Samantha dated an urban white man in an cougar body (Justin the Cougar) across a string of episodes. Since then, Samantha has married Alec but continues to live under her parents' roof.

Allison Kendall[edit]

Allison Christina Kendall (voiced by Maribel Mort) is the middle child of the family who is Kendra and Miles' high-school aged daughter and the younger sister of Samantha and older sister of Jackie. She attends Cindy Ward High School. There have been two versions of the "Allison" character over the course of Hoosier Anchorwoman! The first version was a one-off execution limited to the unaired precursory pilot (not to be confused with the season premiere episode entitled "Pilot"). This original version of Allison stood out as most contrasting and atypical, particularly in appearance and voice. In this precursor pilot, she was voiced by Kellie Rock. Here, she was much prettier, sassier, and snarkier than her later versions. By the series premiere, Maribel Mort began voicing the character. Also by the series premiere, Allison became attractive, tomboyish and more mature than before, though still sassy. She was made softer, more emotional and more endearing than before. As part of her emotional and sensitive character, Allison is combined with a screechy wail. Despite her tomboysih characteristics, Allison is particularly conceited and obnoxious. Along with this, Allison shows great ambition and enthusiasm for her various interests and pursuits. Unlike her sisters, she possesses a keen interest in the same sex and has came out as a lesbian and has had an girlfriend, Megan, who Kendra disapproved of. Allison's relationship with her mother is strained with Miles often behaving judgmentally and intolerantly over Allison's sexuality, immaturity, and sensitivity. Allison has three best friends: Ramona, Elaine, and Trista.

Jackie Kendall[edit]

Jacqueline Ariel "Jackie" Kendall (voiced by Ariel Swaringen; later Karly Jameson) is the baby of the family who is Kendra and Miles' middle-school aged youngest daughter and the youngest sister of Samantha and Allison. She attends Hannah Storm Middle School. There have been three versions of the "Jackie" character over the course of Hoosier Anchorwoman! The first version was a one-off execution limited to the unaired precursory pilot (not to be confused with the season premiere episode entitled "Pilot"). This original version of Jackie stood out as most contrasting and atypical, particularly in appearance and voice. In this precursor pilot, she was voiced by Holly Everman. Here, she was much nerdier, gawkier, and scrawnier than her later versions. By the series premiere, Ariel Swaringen began voicing the character until her death in 2014. Also by the series premiere, Jackie became taller, thicker, womanlier and more mature than before, though still nerdy. By Jackie's third design, she was made softer, more emotional, cuter, sassier, snarkier, and more endearing than before. As part of her emotional and sensitive character, Jackie is combined with a screechy wail. Despite her wimpy and nerdy characteristics, Jackie is particularly conceited and obnoxious. Along with this, she often proves to be a showwoman, always ready to put on a performance and show off her abilities, often singing-wise. Jackie shows great ambition and enthusiasm for her various interests and pursuits. She possesses a keen interest in the opposite sex and has had an obese boyfriend who Kendra disapproved of. Jackie's relationship with her father is strained with Kendra often behaving judgmentally and intolerantly over Jackie's nerdiness, immaturity, and sensitivity. Jackie has been known to cop attitude, sometimes rightfully so at Kendra over her offensive acts. Jackie has three best friends: Candice, Monti, and Hannah.

Joyce the Cow[edit]

Joyce (voiced by Ava Zinn impersonating Roseanne Barr) is the very zany pansexual cow who lives in the Kendall family's yard. Blithely so, Joyce is depraved, devious, and cruel. She typically exhibits a lighthearted, carefree temperament while also engaged in her freakish grossness, outrageous malice, and rascally shenanigans. Having no limits on her shocking and brazen ways, Joyce typically says and does anything and everything that comes to her mind.

Initially being banned by the family from going into the public and often being depressive because of that in early episodes, Joyce later begins to be shown to assume different aliases and has a carousel of seemingly endless costumes, which allows her to do almost everything she wants.

Kayla the Snake[edit]

Kayla (voiced by Karly Jameson in a Russian accent) is the Kendall family's hapless and saturnine snake. She is consultative and full of sage advice, sometimes even wearing glasses and taking on a scholarly appearance. Kayla was once an West German Olympic swimmer until her mind was transferred into the body of a snake during the 1990 Summer Olympics by the CIA to prevent her from winning the gold medal, leaving her permanently trapped in the snake's body. Kayla is still yet to come to terms with what happened, at times malcontent and gloomy. Not confined to her snakebowl, Kayla is often seen uniquely scooting herself about the Kendall residence, reclined in a glass and flashlight. In these moments, it is only her very lower back that is actually in the glass. In the early going, Kayla had an obsessive lesbian crush on Miles and often made sexual advances at him.[2] For much of the series discounting its beginnings, the Kendall family and particularly Joyce have been shown to treat Kayla with disdain, take her for granted, and even mistreat her. Ironically, Kayla started out on the series as a bully, known for her ridicule and cruel teasing of all the show's main characters, particularly Joyce.

Alec Dailey[edit]

Alec Justin Franklin Dailey (voiced by Alec Dailey) is Samantha's mellow boyfriend and later whipped husband. An unemployed college dropout with no apparent skills, he is emasculated, weak-willed, pathetic and frequently behaves naively. Alec is often shown to be infatuated with Samantha's mother, Miles, having made subtle passes at him on many occasions. Alec's own mother abandoned him early on, giving birth to him in a van, within which he lives until moving in with the Kendalls. His relationship with his father is abysmal, with him viewing and treating Alec as a failure. Before moving in with the Kendalls, Alec lived from his van, which he had parked in front of the Kendalls' residence when he started dating Samantha.

Throughout the series, Samantha repeatedly dumps Alec for being a needy, clingy pushover, leaving Alec crushed until their inevitable reconciliations.

In the show's one-hundredth episode, the two finally marry.
