The Willis family is enjoying “McDonald's Christmas on Ice” (in an indoor ice rink), starring Tara Lipinski. The main act features a reindeer, a candy cane, and a snowman who are all fretting over a purple monster named Grimmace, who advances upon the other Christmas characters, threatening to steal their Holiday Cheer, the characters mistakenly stumble backward over a wooden basketball court setup crew led by a middle aged clerk. All the Christmas characters are enraged that their show is being cut short and they begin brawling with the Indiana Pacers as they try to warm up for a basketball game. Ava, Tabby, Shushu, Heather and the kids decide to get up and leave, and Angie is spotted down on the ice grappling with the Grimmace and demanding back the Holiday Cheer. The Grimmace repeatedly returns throughout the episode, wanting to kill Angie.

On December 18th, the week before Christmas, the Willis family go to Marcie Roses' department store at Quillsville's Westgate Mall where a sad Brynn sits on Santa's lap and explains the one true present she wants is the Reggedy Andrea Pony Beach Party Set, which is sold out everywhere. Santa Claus, who is really Homer Holmes (this episode reveals his last name), pities Brynn and goes back to the stockroom and finds two extra play sets he had seen earlier. An overjoyed Brynn thanks Homer as a cashier rings up the sale. As Ava and the kids exit the store, an angry Tina Craven comes out of the food court and scolds at Homer for selling the Reggedy Andrea play set that she had set aside for his granddaughter, Breanca Craven. Then when Homer refuses to take the present away from Brynn, Tina profanely fires him and says, "you son of a bitch, you're fucking fired". Melissa, Stephanie, Ava, Angie and the kids witness the scene and feeling sorry for Homer, Stephanie invites him over for Christmas Eve dinner at the Rose home.

After dinner at home, Homer, Ava, Angie, Brynn, Mandy, Tabby, Shushu, the Willis sextuplets, Heather, Melissa, Stephanie, Connie and the rest of Melissa and Stephanie's families gather around the piano and sing songs. Finishing, Homer gets up to leave; however, Stephanie insists he stay the night, citing how late and cold it is outside. Homer accepts Melissa's offer. On Christmas morning, Homer retrieves items from his bus locker, assuming she had a permanent spot in 6320 West Evansville. Indeed, Homer's weak demeanor and lack of job allows Homer to let him move in, and Angie is too distracted by the Grimmace's presence outside the home (where it rhymes about putting Angie's blood in his stew) to pay much notice to Homer next door.

Homer begins to ruin the neighborhood's holiday. However, Stephanie and Melissa continually allows him to stay out of guilt, due to Melissa's childhood memory when Kymberly and Adelle stuffed Melissa in their own dollhouse when Melissa refused to hide their cigarettes. Ava and Angie's patience wears thin after Melissa's inability to say "no" causes Homer to walk in on Melissa and Stephanie's “snuggling” on Valentine's Day, and bring his friends to sing and drink on St. Patrick's Day. After eleven months and with Ava intervening, Melissa finally agrees to say no to Homer and kick him out, only to learn from Connie that Homer got a job in a suburb of Oakland, California, packed up his things and left that morning.

Homer ends up becoming a very successful realtor in Oakland. Despite the fact that Homer has already left for good, Melissa wishes to go there and finally get the pleasure of saying “no” to him.

At the family's new home in Oakland, California (the mailbox reads The Willis and a Holmes Oakey Realty sold sign sits out front), the Willis family sing Christmas carols, and on the piano, Homer leads them in song. The episode ends with a family of Grimmaces arriving at the doorstep. Angie lets them in and Homer, the Willis and the Grimmaces continue happily singing their carols.
