Joshua "Josh" Kaufman is a character voiced by the singer of the same name on the American animated television series Queen of the Willis. He is an arch-rival to Ava Willis, Karly Jameson, Alisan Porter and Angie Willis in the city of Quillsville, Indiana, where the show is set.

Character[edit]

Josh Kaufman is characterized as a friendly, soft-spoken, former classmate with the characters Ava Willis, Melissa Rose, Karly Jameson, Kendra Kendall, Tiffani Donovan, Anna Pamhouser, Alisan Porter and Avril Lavigne.

He becomes friends with Angie Willis because Heather Willis (Queen of the Willis), started dating an unnamed male and Angie felt left out in "Ten Years To Life". Angie and Kaufman remain friends until Heather breaks up with an unnamed boyfriend and starts hanging out with Angie again. Kaufman becomes jealous and becomes very angry towards Angie and Heather. In the end, Angie and Heather successfully trap Kaufman in a box using M&M's as bait. His box is then sent to an unknown warehouse containing a large amount of crates to be studied by "top women in Ohio," parodying the final moments of the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

In "The New Mayor in Quillsville", the zoo in Quillsville is named for him.

He returns in "Willis Identity", avenging his defeat when he steals Angie's wallet when she leaves from the Addison Agen concert. He irresponsibly spends thousands of dollars with Angie's credit card, and commits identity theft by using her driver's license, social security number, passport and the title to the house to take Angie's home, family and title. In retaliation, Heather encourages Angie to assume Kaufman's identity herself and get revenge on him by ruining his reputation to the general public. After doing so as a guest on The Karly Jameson Show, Josh instantly goes from being a beloved singer to hated. Josh gets furious and confronts Angie but, exactly as before, Angie and Heather trick him into being trapped in another crate, when Angie remarks they should remember it immediately for next time. In the end, the box is sent once again in the same warehouse by "top women in Ohio".

Josh Kaufman also appeared in "And Now There Are Fewer". He invites several Quillsville residents to his mansion to apologize to them, but he is murdered by Zach Mullins, along with Stepfano, Jackson Sabo, Lee Kelso, Danielle Wilcox, and Kaufman' wife Jennine. Kaufman and Jennine had met before he turned 40, so Zach Mullins employed Jennine to seduce him and convert him, which led to the dinner party.

In "Angela Stroup: The Woman and Her Dream", after scoring Angela Stroup a cameo on Days of Our Lives, Angie Willis and Angela Stroup were celebrating in a hotel room, when Angie's 'assistant' Howard informs her that a man would like Angie to be his agent as well. The man bursts through the door, and is revealed to be Josh Kaufman, alive and as well as ever, to both Angie Willis and Angela Stroup's surprise. It is revealed that due to being a famous singer, he was entitled to top-notch medical care at an Indianapolis hospital, the care was essentially transfusing a life force from a 10-year-old boy to Josh Kaufman, hereby bringing him back from the dead.

Josh Kaufman faces his Arlen counterpart, Chuck Mangonie from King of the Hill in "Queen of the Hill".

Development[edit]

The real-life Josh Kaufman provides the fictionalised version of herself.

Queen of the Willis creator Ava Zinn found Kaufman's performance on the sixth season of The Voice as well as watching Kaufman's 1993 Star Search performance on YouTube as "Vote for the Worst" awful, Zinn created a similar character for Queen of the Willis and as an archrival to Alisan Porter, whom like Kaufman, also was a contestant on "Star Search" and won the tenth season of The Voice.

He is known as one of Ava Willis' enemies as well as Karly Jameson and Alisan Porter and has a son Dylan Porter. </ref>

The character we've created is kind of this alternate-universe Alisan Porter and Josh Kaufman where they are former classmates of Ava Willis and unlike Lee Kelso and Lilly Rush, we have made their references to Vote for the Girls, The Voice and "Star Search", because we like keeping that separate. It's the obvious place to go. We tried it; we thought it would be funny to do something different with Alisan and Josh.
