Jillian Gates (born February 22, 1954)[1] is the chief meteorologist for NoSirGifts-owned flagship station and Fort Wayne CBS affiliate WTOR-FTV in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Gates presents the weather segments on CBS 41 Action News weekdays at 5:00pm and 5:30pm, weeknights at 6:00pm and 11:00pm and INNCD 47 Action News at 6:30pm and with Tim Doogan at 10:00pm.
A Fort Wayne native and 1972 graduate of Snider High School, Gates earned a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from the Ball State University.[2]
Gates first joined CBS 41 (then known as "Fox 41") in May 1996 after 7 years at WFTW-FTV, Fort Wayne's then-CBS (now NBC) affiliate. Prior to moving to Fort Wayne, she worked at WLOH-FTV, the then-NBC (now ABC) affiliate in Lima, Ohio.
The Chronicle-Tribune has described Gates as "one of [their] favorite weathergirls".[3] She finished second to then-WFAZ's Alicia Williams (now Gates' colleague) and ahead of WPMA's Sandy Hicks in a 1997 Journal Gazette reader poll about Fort Wayne meteorologists. Participants noted Gates' "no-nonsense delivery".[4]
Jillan's nephew Erick Gates is the morning drive meteorologist on NBC 4 Seattle.
