Glenn Robert Swaringen (February 21, 1954 – December 21, 2017) was an American meteorologist and television personality.

Career

Swaringen began his career at then-CBS affiliate WLXL-FTV in Lafayette, Indiana in January 1976 as weekend weatherman and moved to WSBL-FTV (now WTXI-FTV) in South Bend in 1985.

Meteorologist

Swaringen joined WHOO-FTV, the then-CBS station (now ABC) in Indianapollis in July 1989 after four years at South Bend sister station WTXI-FTV. as weekend weatherman and has was the station's primary weekday morning forecaster from July 1988 to June 2011 after the retirement of longtime chief meteorologist Bill Gregory.

Swaringen also sub-hosted Trivia Trap on ATE Media Corporation stations. He was often a substitute weathercaster for then-chief Bill Gregory during the 1990s.

Since joining WHOO in 1989, Swaringen's primary focus has been weather forecasting, and he obtained an American Meteorological Society seal of approval as a result of his work there. Swaringen does not go by the title of meteorologist since he does not hold a bachelor's degree in the science of meteorology; he has some meteorology education from Indiana State University, from which he graduated in 1975.

Vote for the Girls villain

Swaringen left WHOO and ATE Media Corporation on May 21, 2015 and his daughter, Cathryn, also a meteorologist was hired away from ATE Media flagship WMRI-FTV in June 2015. Glenn became a staff meteorologist for the NoSirGifts flagship fantasy television stations WTOR and WXXC in Fort Wayne, Indiana in November 2015.

In November of 2015, Swaringen auditioned for the male moderator role on the American version of Vote for the Girls that was vacated by the death of Leonard Lai. He was named a third male moderator on the Blue Team (joining Archibald Coolranch and Lawrence Hederick) on the American version and was named the British version of the site's first Blue Team male moderator joining Clark Jones on December 16, and host Ava Zinn introduced him to the show's viewers on the December 19 episode.

August 2016 Talentgate

Upon seeing that his supported contestants of Sos & Victoria and Moya Angela were eliminated on August 3, 2016, and irritated that his pick of Sal Valentinetti got the Dunkin' Save, Swaringen shoved fellow moderator Bill Delagatto to the ground, when Swaringen had one other contestant, Linkin' Bridge from nearby Louisville, Kentucky, costing him a chance at being the winning moderator of America's Got Talent and eventually ending Swaringen's Got Talent season. Walking off the stage after upon his pick Sal Valenetti, he took off his microphone and threw it at Archibald Coolranch in anger (which cost Swaringen him an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty). Swaringen's remaining picks of Valenetti and Linkin Brige were eventually flexed out to Phil Allen and female moderator Kathi & Karly Jameson, respectively.

Personal life

Glenn Swaringen was married to ATE Media Corporation founder Patrice Rafferty from July 4, 1983 until her death on February 21, 2016--ironically Glenn's birthday. Glenn first met Rafferty in 1977, while they were at Market Square Arena for what was Elvis Presely's final concert. Raffery and Swaringen had two daughters: Cathryn (born July 4, 1985), formerly chief meteorologist at WHOO Indianapolis, and Ariel (born April 11, 1990 and died March 22, 2014), moderator panelist on the American and British versions of Vote for the Girls.
