Andrea Jameson (born July 5, 1958)[1] is an American news anchor. Jameson currently works for ABC 39 (WAWZ), the ABC affiliate in Chicago, Illinois; joining the station in January 1983 when the station signed on.

Early life and education[edit]

Born in 1958 at Provident Hospital in Chicago, Jameson has a sister Alaina (anchor at WCIL CBS 9). Jameson graduated from Lindblom Technical High School (now known Lindblom Math & Science Academy) in 1976. Jameson graduated from the wikipedia:University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where she received her B.S. in Psychology and Biology.[2] She is a member of wikipedia:Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Professional career[edit]

Prior to Jameson beginning her career in broadcasting, she was on television on Romper Room.[2] Jameson's broadcasting career began at age 25 in 1983 at then-independent (later PAX, and now ABC O&O) station WAWZ in Chicago where she solo anchored "News 39 at 9" at the suggestion of Patrice Rafferty (Rafferty herself built and signed on WAWZ on January 2, 1983, months after ATE Media Corporation bought 18 stations from Corithian.) In 2006, as WAWZ switched from PAX to ABC, she was promoted to 5 p.m. weekday co-anchor and 10 p.m. weeknight anchor with Katie Majors.

At WAWZ, Andrea Jameosn recalled Patrice Rafferty making a young anchorwoman and Jameson at WAWZ after the particaulr anchorwoman once complained of cold air in WAWZ's newsroom in 1986, Rafferty had the female co-anchor (Jameson identified that anchor as Carol Brock) anchoring WAWZ's weekend 9 p.m. newscast bundled up for bitter cold temperatures.

Jameson married her high school sweetheart and WQCI meterologist, Mark Weegel, on January 12, 1985. They remained married for 26 years until his death, on October 19, 2011, from lung cancer. They had two children (Roberta and Karla), and Jameson has not remarried.

Andrea Jameson is also the aunt of Alaina's children Stephanie, Kathi, Nicolas, and Allison.
