The 2002 Margaret Zinn family realignment consisted of a series of events that resulted from her then-youngest son Frank's (now daughter Ava) dis-enrollment from Indiana Wesleyan University on September 27, 2001, the death of Margaret and her then-eldest son Albert, and primarily involving many of the Zinn family switching genders, primarily male to female.

The major impetus for the changes was to carry on the traditions started by Margaret Zinn to improve quality. As a result of various other relationship deals that followed, the switches constituted some of the most sweeping changes in the history of the Zinn family. As a result of this realignment, Ava Zinn has been more successful as a woman that ascended to the status of a major celebrity, comparable in influence to Andrea James, Lynn Conway, Alexis Arquette, Candis Cayne, and Laverne Cox.

Nearly 10 Zinn family members changed genders beginning in December 2004 and continuing through September 2010, which marked some of the most expansive changes in Zinn family history.
